THE LANCE OF PRAYER #2 Eph 6:13-19 13 Therefore put on Gods complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place]. 14 Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God, 15 And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace. 16 Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one]. 17 And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God. 18 Pray at all times (on every occasion, in every season) in the Spirit, with all [manner of] prayer and entreaty. To that end keep alert and watch with strong purpose and perseverance, interceding in behalf of all the saints (Gods consecrated people). 19 And [pray] also for me, that [freedom of] utterance may be given me, that I may open my mouth to proclaim boldly the mystery of the good news (the Gospel) AMP _________________________________________________________ THE ARMOR OF GOD Belt of Truth - Holds everything together. The Word of God. Breastplate - The heart, a right heart and right motives. Love God, Love people. Knowing who we are in Christ. Shoes - The walk and the purpose of the Gospel. Helmet - Our knowledge. Our minds renewed by the Word of God. Shield - Our #1 defense. How we continue in the battle. Sword - Our #1 offense. The power of the spoken word of God. Prayer - Open lines of communication. Undergarment - Love is our spiritual underwear. *Keeps you from being rubbed raw! Everything the soldier needed to successfully combat his adversary was at his disposal. Likewise, we have been given the whole armor of God — everything we need to successfully combat opposing forces. Nothing is lacking! Every piece of armor has great significance for us in our battle against an unseen enemy. God has provided everything you need to successfully stand up to the devil, to resist him, and to defeat him. Will you choose to obey or ignore Pauls urgent command to “put on the whole armor of God”? Your success against an enemy that seeks every opportunity to destroy you depends on the choice you make! (From Sparkling Gems from the Greek by Rick Renner) Eph 6:18 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints. NIV Eph 6:18 18 Pray in the Spirit at all times. Pray with all kinds of prayers . . . Easy-to-Read Version PRAYING ALWAYS = Every time you get a chance, at every season, at each and every possible moment. Anytime you get a chance, no matter where you are or what you are doing, at every opportunity, every season and every possible moment SEIZE that time to pray. (Rick Renner) Without the lance of prayer we are missing and neglecting a critical part of the armor. A Roman soldier would never go to battle without his lance! SIX KINDS OF PRAYER THE PRAYER OF CONSECRATION. The most common word for prayer. “Proseuche” Pros = Face to face, a close up front intimate contact with someone. Euche = A wish, desire, vow. This word shows a person who would vow to give something of great value to God in exchange for a favorable answer to prayer. THE PRAYER OF PETITION A need or a want. This is the picture of a person with some kind of need or desire in their personal life. A petition or a cry for God’s help that exposes a person’s insufficiency to meet their own needs. The prayer of consecration has to do primarily with surrender and consecration. The prayer of petition has to do with our humility. This is the picture of a believer who recognizes his utter dependence on God and his inability to meet his own need. The prayer of petition is therefore prayer that exposes a person’s insufficiency and his continual need for God. (Rick Renner)
