Deep in her heart, she knew it was the last birthday shell ever have. But there was no bitterness or sadness. She called all her closest friends and invited them to a party. They had lots of laughter together -- and tears, too. After the meal, she gathered them in her living room. She faced them and said, For years, I was in the gathering phase of my life. Today, Im in the surrendering phase. As Im about to depart this earth, I no longer need material things. I have only one need in my life now. I need to love. So before you go home, please allow me to love you....... She then spread on the table all her precious belongings -- a favorite teacup, a lovely pitcher, a scarf, a watch, a few pcs. of jewelry. She said, Please bring one gift that you need. Ev- ery time you use it, hold it, or look at it, youll remember that I love you. Itll be our connection. Six weeks later, she went to heaven.
