THE LAST LAWYER ALIVE TO HELP AMIN VICTIMS FIND JUSTICE: I am a member of Amnesty International and I can answer these questions you pose. I know for a fact that Amnesty as an organisation is very busy, especially in these troubled times. It is a policy of the organisation not to respond to silly, redundant or vexatious questions that serve no purpose, or can be easily be clarified by reading the regular Country Reports it issues on human rights situations in various countries around the world, including Uganda. Amnesty Internationals Country Reports on Uganda since the bloody military coup your father executed in 1971, and his subsequent rule by murder and terror, are all in the public domain. Within international human rights law circles, Iam regarded as an expert on the Amin era crimes committed under the murderous rule of your father between 1971 and 1979. A huge percentage of these crimes, particularly gruesome murders, macabre rituals of torture, human sacrifice and cannibalism were committed directly by the late Idi Amin Dada.I am the last lawyer alive who participated in the trial of the Amin era criminals after the liberation of Uganda in 1979. These trials were led by the late Amos Twinomujuni and I worked in his prosecuting team as a young lawyer. Twinomujuni, as you know, died early this year and in his death, we witnessed the passing away of one of the greatest prosecuting lawyers Uganda, and indeed Africa has produced. I am very proud of the role I played in trying to bring some modicum of justice to the hundreds of thousands of Amins victims. My job, as a young prosecuting attorney was to read mountains of their witness statements and testimonies and to prepare briefs for Twinomujuni and our prosecuting teams. Reading through these gory and sometimes blood-curdling testimonies of the evil and cruelty that constituted Amin and his henchmen still gives me nightmares more than 30 years later. There is no doubt Amin was a psychopath who revelled in and enjoyed killing and witnessing the suffering of others. There is no other way of explaining his cruelty, the level of which has never been matched. Amin was an evil incarnate. He escaped justice and never accounted for his crimes, but I remain very proud of my record in trying to apprehend him and bring him to the court of justice to face his victims. I have monitored human rights situations in more than 12 countries over the last 20 years, including the Philippines, India, Bangla Desh, Guatemala, Colombia, Nagorno-Karabakh, Belarus, Bosnia, Kosovo etc.The Churcjes in the Philippines recently gave me a medal of recognition for BRAVERY BEYOND THE CALL OF DUTY.
