THE LEADERSHIP SAGA OF NOIKORO IN NAVOSA The Noikoro people of Navosa were, as they claimed, were original settlers in Vitilevu and had never came in any migration wave that is popularized by the Lutunasobasoba, Degei and the original Vuda Landing theory. But legend revealed that while the tribes of Tavalala incharged and were building the earth-mound depicts a chiefly demand for their chief Sasaroko a new physically, light skinned giant like person arrived and sat on a hillock in the full sight of the Yavusa(clan). Immediately the local chief Sasaroko summoned his people to go and invite the new arrival to come. After several attempt, the visitor did not respond to the invitation. When the local chief Sasaroko learnt that they were using normal words to invite the visitor and his team, he said to his messengers, you must use “ia beka!” to start your invitation. When the messengers used that word, the visitor Roko Tubuna by name responded and went to the place where Sasaroko was sitting high up on his mound(yavu) upon which Sasaroko crawled down and gave way to Roko Tubuna amidst request from the yavusa for their chief Sasaroko to retain his place. Thus that simple drama that day the destroying of leadership in the Noikoro district was decided, giving Roko Tubuna full liberty to rule the whole district and all local population made subservient to this new aristocrat. It is from Roko Tubuna’s decendants that the late Adi Kuini Vuikaba Speed emerged and several attempt by local residents to request sharing of responsibilities and authority has been no avail. Thus, this yavu in the photograph’s stands an eternal remainder of the change made by simple decision that affects for reaching destiny for local population. A couple of months ago this story appeared on the “Lalakai” a Fijian Newspaper to confirm this story.
