THE LEVEL TO WHICH SMALL MINDED PEOPLE WILL STOOP IS AMAZING! NEHEMIAH 6:1-9, 15 OUR DAILY BREAD READING – CURRY JUS’ SAYIN’ The things SMALL MINDED/SHALLOW/IMMATURE people are prepared to do to jeopardize the work, that is, THE REBUILDING OF A WALL TO FORTIFY A NATION amaze me. This morning, I give God thanks for reminding me about how some people respond when they observe that we are making progress with a national or any other project. God also reminded me of the reasons for their responses. Here are the reminders. 1. Everyone will receive word of your success with rebuilding the wall, or any other project that will fortify the nation. Word about the rebuilding went to Sanballat, Tobiah and Geshem and the rest of Nehemiah’s enemies 2. Everyone will hear about the outstanding level of accomplishment that you have made. Nehemiah rebuilt the wall and not a gap was left in it. 3. Some people will spring into action when they see your success, and your success will drive them to put in place schemes to destroy you. Sanballat and Geshem sent Nehemiah this message: “Come, let us meet together in one of the villages on the plain of Ono.” 4. As a leader, you have to be discerning, so that you are able to determine when someone is sincere or not. The men invited Nehemiah to a meeting, but he knew they were scheming to harm him 5. Try not to respond the way they would want you to respond, for responding their way will only move you away from the task of rebuilding. 6. Some people will try to get you off task by persisting, but do not waver. Four times they sent for Nehemiah with the same message, and each time he gave them the same answer 7. People who are resistant to the work,(nation building/change), will become desperate and use numerous tactics such as writing an official letter to derail you from your purpose of rebuilding. 8. Some people will make extreme accusation/repeat rumors, and use people’s names to substantiate their LIES/make their lies credible. They told Nehemiah that, according to Geshem, it was being reported that he and the Jews were plotting to revolt; therefore they were building the wall. Moreover, it was also being reported that Nehemiah was about to become their king and he had appointed prophets to make this proclamation about him in Jerusalem: ‘There is a king in Judah!’ 9. Some people will try to put fear in you to get what they want. “Now this report will get back to the king; so come, let us meet together.” 10. Some people will try to frighten you into thinking that you will not be able to complete the work, in other words, you will fail. God’s reminders were so timely given the recent events that I have observed, experienced or heard about from family and friends. I have concluded that people are really shallow, for they cannot see beyond their personal agendas. Here is a Nehemiah who is trying to rebuild for the good of a nation, and look at what they are prepared to do to hinder the work. Why wouldn’t they just join him in the rebuilding? EREADERS, small mindedness, if given some attention, will thwart you from your purpose of rebuilding. I have been warned; therefore, I am advising you not to let the enemies derail you from the purpose to which God has called you. Being made of aware of the responses of some people toward progress/nation building, I have been praying for Godly wisdom for political, spiritual and professional leaders. This morning, I added my two cents to the prayer of Nehemiah, as I prayed for me and you God, you see and know what confronts us, now strengthen our hands. Curry Jus’ Sayin’
