THE LORD IS WITH US HILLSDIE HELPS: “Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” (Deut.31:6) Nearing the end of life, Moses addresses the people of Israel with words of assurance about their future. The Lord had chosen Moses to lead the people of God out of Egypt, but not into the Promised Land. Instead, Joshua was anointed to become their leader at the time of Moses’ death. Moses first addressed all of Israel assuring them that God, “will go before thee”. Then he told them Joshua’s position, “and Joshua, he shall go over before thee.” They needed to know that crossing the river Jordan and taking possession of the Promised Land was the next step in God’s plan. Following God is not always easy. There are times when great challenges are faced such as leaving the comforts of our Egypt and following Him through detours and dead ends. Just when we seem to be “settled in”, God uproots and moves us, even when it seems so unreasonable. God owes no one an explanation of what His doing or why He is doing it. He is sovereign over all. He has the big picture in mind, while so often we get hung in tunnel vision. We are unable to look beyond the Red Sea or across the river Jordan. God promised to be with Joshua and the people of Israel. They needed to, “be strong, and of a good courage…fear not, nor be afraid.” God would not only be leading them, but he would also be with them. He promised He would not, fail or forsake them. As we respond in obedience to God’s leading, we have the assurance that God will go in front protecting us by defeating our enemies, providing our every need, and remaining with us all the way to the promised land. Today, don’t be afraid to go where God leads you. He has big plans for those willing to take the first step of faith. God will make a way where there seems to be no way and He will be right with us all the way. The Promised Land is before you. There you will find God’s best.
