THE LORD’S WAY: A continuation of the Sermon on the Mount Matthew 6:9-15-After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. [“After this manner therefore pray ye:” Is completely opposite of the heathen and hypocrites manner of praying. When we pray in this manner, it is to be prayed in full confidence that our heavenly Father will hear and answer according to His will. Our prayers should always be directed to God the Father and not Christ or the Holy Spirit. We should always reverence the Lord’s name.] 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. [The Lord’s kingdom will come at His second coming. “The will of God is all important; it will be carried out on earth, beginning with the kingdom age.”] 11 Give us this day our daily bread. [We are to look too the Lord for our needs; He sustains us both physically and spiritually.] 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. [“Debts,” means trespasses or sins; Lord forgive us our trespasses; Lord for give us our sins; even the believer has sin, do not stand for that false teaching that a believer does not have sin or a sin nature. The only way that we as believers can have victory over the sin nature is by maintaining our faith in the finished work of Christ. The Lord’s extended forgiveness towards us is predicated on our forgiving others; I am not saying that you have to forgive others prior to salvation, besides being absurd, it would be impossible, as well as, frustrate the grace of God. So much for unconditional eternal security; the only way you have eternal security is by maintaining your faith in the finished work of Christ; stop reading Calvin and please start reading your Bible.] 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. [The idea of this verse is, that in my self-confidence, which stems from the flesh and not the Spirit, please do not me to be led into temptation, because I most definitely will fail. The trap is more powerful than I can handle; only You God can deliver me from it. God delivers us through the power of the Holy Spirit, according to our faith in Christ and His finished work upon Calvary’s cross; and He delivers us from Satan himself, who is the destroyer. Satan is a usurper, this earth still belongs to the Lord, even though He has given dominion of it to him until the second coming. God has the power to deliver and He does so through the cross (do not insult yourself, I do not mean a wooden beam, I mean what Christ there did). “The glory” belongs to God and not to Satan, and none of this will ever change. “Amen,” expresses a solemn ratification. In the mind of God, Satan has already been defeated and destroyed.] 14 For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: [When we forgive others we must forgive as God forgives; He forgave us, and had mercy upon us when we did not deserve mercy or forgiveness. God’s forgiveness of man rests solely upon the atoning work of Christ; it is an act of amazing grace.] 15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. [Again, if we want God to forgive us, we must also forgive others, if we do not forgive, His forgiveness is withheld, such a person is in danger of losing their soul; so much for “unconditional” eternal security. Again we are saved by faith alone, but if one does not maintain their faith in Christ and Him crucified, or if one just said a “prayer of salvation,” but was never born-again, they are in danger of eternal damnation. It is not for me to know one’s heart, there is One who knows though.] God Bless You All. Pastor.
