THE LORD’S WAY: Matthew 5:3-5- Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. [These are the beginning verses of what is referred to as the beatitudes, as well as, the “Sermon on the Mount.” The “beatitudes” are representative of the moral character of the citizens of the Kingdom of heaven, hence it should be representative of the moral character of every Christian. The Kingdom of Heaven is not yet here physically, however it is here spiritually. In order to have these moral characteristics, one must be born-again, because a human could never attain these standards in their own strength, or by their own will power, therefore they need the power of God in their life (the righteousness of God, which can only be obtained by faith in Christ & His atoning work at Calvary). Blessed or happy are the “poor in spirit”. The “poor in spirit” are conscious of both their own moral depravity, as well as, all of mankinds. Blessed/happy are those who mourn, because of their sin (they hate sin, they do not take pleasure in it, even though like every human being they have a sin nature). The Holy Spirit will come and comfort those of us who recognize our sin and are worthlessness outside of Christ; it is a promise of God. If you are “poor in spirit & mourn,” you will be meek, guaranteed. Being “meek” is the opposite of being self-righteous. The meek are blessed/happy. The “meek” will inherit the earth at the 2nd coming of Christ.] God bless you all. Pastor
