THE LOVE OF GOD 2 (CHARACTERISTICS OF HIS LOVE) ..... God is love.... (1 John 4:16) * We bless our loving God for His protection one more time. Well like to continue today on our subject on the love of God. Well like to focus today on the characteristics of the love of God. I pray that at the end of todays message youll experience another phase of the love of God. * A characteristic is a special quality or trait that makes a person, thing, or group different from others. The characteristics of Gods love is that trait or special quality of His love that makes It different or stands out from the other kinds of love. God is never like man. Thus His love is also different from that of man. *Some of the characteristics of the love of God are as follows; 1) IT IS PERSONIFIED: Its important for us to know that the love of God is a person. In Titus 3:4-5, we read, 4. But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5. He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,... In this text, we can see that, our saviour is that kindness and love of God. Love is not a thing but a person that saves. No wonder Paul began with verse 5 with the word He. Since love is a personality we can have fellowship with Him. Till we understand this characteristic of Gods love, we cannot commune Him (the person of the love). This personality is Called Jesus. Whenever, this personality expresses life, we see love of God in motion. 2) ABSOLUTELY UNCONDITIONAL: His love is not based on what we have, what we do, or what we achieve. Gods love is not determined by our behavior or our conduct. It is not dependent on our background or our birth or status in society. Gods love is not influenced by anything that we do. When we are good he loves us and when we are bad he loves us. When we work hard for him he loves us and when we dont work hard for him he loves us. This unconditional love is given to us because we are his children. You cant earn unconditional love. God says you are worthy of his love solely because it is his desire to love you. There is nothing you can do to win more of Gods love. In fact there is absolutely no way that you can get God to love you anymore than he does right this very second. It is Gods nature and character to love each and everyone of us. God is love (1 John 4:16).Even as Jesus, the love of God, hung dying on the cross he asked his Father to forgive those that were in the process of murdering him. So because Gods love is unconditional and not based upon your performance, you should accept Him, receive Him and delight in Him. 3) ETERNAL: This is of necessity. God Himself is eternal, and God is love; therefore, as God Himself had no beginning, His love had none. Prophet Jeremiah revealed this truth in Jeremiah 31:3, I have loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn thee. How blessed to know that the great and holy God loved His people before heaven and earth were called into existence, that He had set His heart upon them from all eternity. Clear proof is this that His love is spontaneous, for He loved them endless ages before they had any being. The same precious truth is set forth in Ephesians 1:4,5, According as He hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love having predestinated us. What praise should this evoke from each of His children! How tranquilizing for the heart: since God’s love toward me had no beginning, it can have no ending! Since it is true that from everlasting to everlasting He is God, and since God is love, then it is equally true that from everlasting to everlasting He loves His people. 4)PERFECT: God’s love is perfect. There is nothing that can be added to or taken away from Gods love. He is complete. He cannot love you anymore than he does right now and his love for you yesterday was the same as it is today, and it will be the same tomorrow. And there is absolutely nothing that you can do to cause Him to love you any less. 5) BEYOND OUR UNDERSTANDING: It is still mysterious to realize that even as we continue to sin, as we continue to fail him, as we continue to break the promises that we make to him, as we continue to be disobedient to him, he still loves us as much as he ever did. God never says, Thats it, no more love! Ive had it with you! You cant do anything to get God to stop loving you. Gods unconditional love is far beyond our understanding. God hates the sin but even as we are sinning he still loves us with that perfect unconditional love. It is a love that is simply beyond the comprehension of the human mind. Mans inability to understand Gods great love is probably best described by Paul at Ephesians 3:19 , where in describing Gods love he uses the term, a love which surpasses all knowledge. 6) INSEPARABLE: Apostle Paul asked a Rhetorical question in his epistle to the Romans, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? He continued by talking listing different problems, things and personalities including even angels. All that he intended to say was that nothing is about to separate us who are in Christ from the love of God. When the devil bring problems and temptations on your way, trying to deceive you to believe that you can be separated from His love, tell him that nothing can separate you from the love of God. *Beloved, God love has so many characters and dimensions that our minds cannot fathom. Endeavour to take advantage of this love in the name of Jesus. STAY BLESS.
