THE Leader of Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra, (MASSOB), Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has indicted the United Nations of playing double standard in not granting independence and sovereign recognition to African countries. The MASSOB leader, who spoke through the Deputy National Director of the organisation, Mazi Chris Mocha, in his address on Thursday, during the 14th anniversary of the formation of MASSOB, at the MASSOB headquarters, Isiekenesi, Imo State, transmitted to Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Delta and Rivers, said that the United Nations should always consider pains and cries of member nations under their umbrella and do the right thing. He said that United Nations’ recognition of some indigenous tribes and regions in Europe, with lesser population, granting them independent without considering similar gesture for tribes and regions in Africa is prejudice and double standard. He also criticised the United Nations for playing double standard in the case of Biafra with bigger population and lamented that they are waiting until the situation degenerates into a civil war or genocide before coming for rescue, adding that Nigeria had committed more atrocities to people of the country and the people that made up Biafra than those states it had granted self rule in Europe. He called on the United Nations to divide Nigeria into its natural units, which Biafra is one, because United Nations had earlier classified Nigeria, Sudan, Ethiopia and Somalia, as failed states in Africa and called for the separation of these countries into its natural units. Uwazuruike listed some of the recognised independent states in Europe with lesser population to include, Cape-Verde Island, with about 380,000, East Timor, with about 821,000 that was separated from Indonesia, on May 21, 2002. Others are Montenegro of less than 10 million separated from Serbia in July 2006 which was also separated from Muslim North in July 9, 2011, after referendum and insisted that self determination is a universally recognised as legitimate right including Africa. He said until the issue is addressed, corruption, insecurity, crime, killing, religious crisis, discrimination, as well as injustice, will continue to exist and reign supreme in Nigeria, as people do not trust leaders. - See more at: news.bestnaira/posts/view/african-independence-uwazuruike-indicts-un#sthash.dSfglVEA.dpuf
