Make a treaty with us, and we will be your servants, they pleaded. All right, Nahash said, but only on one condition. I will gouge out the right eye of every one of you as a disgrace to all Israel!’ 1 Samuel 11:1-2 NLT A hen and a pig passed a church and observed the subject of the Pastors sermon: “How can we help the poor?” After a moment’s reflection the hen said, “I know how we can do it – we can give them a pork and egg breakfast”. The pig protested saying, “That breakfast would only be a contribution for you, but for me it would mean total commitment.” You get the point? The pig will have to die to produce pork! It’s time to reevaluate all your relationships. Is your partner in a business or romantic relationship contributing eggs while demanding that you contribute pork? This is not taking away from the fact that we need to sacrifice in a relationship; most times we need to give without expecting to receive in return. But as you give sacrificially, watch out that you are not being manipulated or used. Sharpen your negotiation skills. Don’t just take joy in giving, take joy in receiving. Don’t feel guilty in asking for your entitlements and fair treatment. People are willing to use you and dump you if you let them – don’t. Your brain didn’t stop functioning when you became a Christian; use it. Stop allowing people use and cheat you because you are a Christian. Stop fooling yourself that you will make heaven faster when you become everyone’s doormat and toy. And stop using people, stop taking advantage of people’s goodness and disposition towards you. We still reap what we sow. LET’S PRAY: Heavenly Father, order my steps to meet good people and develop relationships that will be mutually beneficial. SUCCESS ACTIVITY: Identify those relationships that have been shortchanging you, renegotiate them or move on.
