THE MEDIA WE CALL ... SOCIAL ¡ Devices of delusions a world of confusions ! So true, check this out ... A generation of idiots, smart phones & dumb people. The video provides a convenient and easy explanation for loneliness where you are not at fault - technology is. Don’t get me wrong, the video has good valid points like the inherent self-interest, self-promotion, and dramatic life narrative that social media provides. But the deceptive thing that the technology does is it allows you to create a fantasy world where even God is created in your own image and your own perfect lifestyle, and your own perfect reasoning. There’s no reason to talk to someone different, take a risk, expose yourself to something new, convince someone, or change your mind. In real life people waste enormous amounts of time on things like beauty, dieting, plastic surgery, body building, accumulating cars, jewelry, clothes, material goods and money. These pursuits present an “image” that is just as lonely and just as obsessive as social media. This video uses all the psychological tools a commercial advertisement does. Try turning off the sound and notice things like the position of the camera, and the dark images of unhappy people. Try turning off the picture and notice the glum background music and the Doctor Seuss rhyming. Then notice what happens where the scapegoat (technology) is gone – everything lightens up and all is right with the world. Yet these images – wedding pictures, hand-holding, babies, families, and grandparents are the majority of what people actually post on social media. We have got to stop looking for things to blame for the unhappiness in our lives. If you do reach out to your fellow man you have to look beyond your little family and friends. You have to take responsibility, get involved, and use the technology to educate yourself, have an open mind, investigate the propaganda, interact with meaning, and see the big picture. - Lucius Dark
