THE METAPHOR: The carnage we witnessed yesterday @ the Nigerians Immigration Service recruitment exercise is a painful reality in the country, an exhibit of the odd survival of the fittest, where millions scramble for few spaces and while few get it, the rest gnash their teeth in despondency! If you are yet to understand the grievous situation, then this may be an eye opener? How do we get to this impasse, lots of graduates and a corresponding boom in unemployment? In the years past upon graduation your recruitment/employment is assured, but this day it has vanished in the thin air, many graduates find it difficult to secure a job no matter how paltry the salary is, decades after school! Why havent we revisited the curricula to concentrate on entrepreneurial courses that will help in dependency? Why are some courses that its relevance are hard to find still studied in the Universities and other institutions of higher learning? Instead of the government building infrastructures we are busy licensing universities, private universities, churning out graduates without any place to absorb them upon leaving school. One of the goals of education is that after leaving school, one is employed, when the industries/multi nationals are lacking to employ, has the essence not been defeated? Look @ your area of your residence and point out any industry existing there capable of recruiting anybody! The ones on ground are winding up, because of the porous Security situation people are scared to invest here! Thats the sad reality! Now lets go to the entry process in the higher institutions, why would JAMB sell up to 7million forms when less than 1million students would gain the admission into the schools. Where goes the rest? These are few highlights, we need to start asking questions, the volatile segment of our society are frustrated, lots into crime, detention centres etc......... These may not continue for long, we must avoid the looming disaster, we are on a Time Bomb! Happy Sunday!
