THE MILLENNIUM PREPARATORY MATHEMATICS FOR PRIMARY SCHOOLS ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS The preparation of this book involved the contribution of other people. So, I value the attitude of Mr. Wakamoga Massinde, who introduced me into the field of writing, and the contributions of Mr. Gilbert Okoth and Mr. Vincent Ochieng’, both of St. Mary’s Junior School- Mbezi Beach, with their pupils in the process of sampling and collecting various questions in mathematics and English. In addition to these, I appreciate the encouragement and positive challenges of Mr. Fungo of Canossa Primary School-Tegeta, Mr. Paul Onyango and Raphael Okumu, both of Almuntazir Primary School, and Mrs. Georgia Mashobe of Agha Khan Primary School. I sincerely appreciate the kindness of Sr. Mary Ventom, Sr. Angela Mlipano and Sr. Theopista, all of Canossa Girls’ School; Br. Ismael Edward, the headmaster of St. Anthony’s Secondary School - Mbagala, for their good libraries that provided me with enough reference materials for preparing this book while I was teaching there. May I also thank Mr. Michael Mgamba and Mr. Jorim Were, both of (Dar es Salaam Independent School; Dr. Barnabas Chile of Feza Girls’ School; Mr. Apiyo Odhiambo of Hope and Joy Primary School - Mbweni, and James Martine Owande of the Unversity of Bagamoyo. Most of all, I acknowledge the humility of my lovely wife, Neema Stephano Uloto, and my daughter (Leticia Amondi) who missed my love during the tiring task of preparing this book; may the almighty God bless them abundantly, without forgetting my loving mom, Nelly Akinyi, and the entire family of the late James Yogo Omego, for urging me hold tightly at the thread of academic knowledge. Last but not least, I appreciate my sister, Dr. Sophy, and my elder brother, Sergeant Richard, and his wife Mama Sarah, of FFU- Ukonga, for financial support. From the bottom of my heart, I thank all these people for their positive endeavour at different stages during the preparation of this book. Nevertheless, I solely bear the right to receive criticism or positive comments geared at improving the content and nature of this piece of work. Consequently, in case there may be any errors or omissions, those herein acknowledged are not directly responsible for such unavoidable human discrepancies. Meshack James Yogo (author) 2012- Dar es Salaam PREFACE Mathematics is all about using language to accurately evaluate things in numbers. Finding the right quantity and quality of the things in our environment enables us to easily transform them technologically, thus use them economically. This is the major reason why Mathematics and English Language are basic subjects taught at school, as well as compulsory examinations for assessing the learner’s IQ. Understanding Mathematics and English is therefore very important for pupils preparing to sit for their final examination at the end of their primary course of education. For that reason, The Millennium Preparatory Questions with Answers is meant for practicing Mathematics and English subjects, because it has questions that would improve the ability of a candidate, so as to easily solve similar questions in their examinations. This book is, therefore, necessary for the candidates preparing to sit for their Certificate of Primary Education Examination, and the Preform One candidates preparing to sit for entry examinations. The book is divided into three parts: Part I has number 1-1,000 Mathematics formulae and multiple choice questions, while Part II has number 1,001-2,000 English multiple choice questions. The questions in the two parts are from various topics covered in the whole course of the primary education; hence they create a good means of revising the two giant academic subjects there. Part III has the answers of all the 2,000 questions in this book. The answers are written in form of letters which correspond with the correct option among the four choices (A, B, C, D), given for each of the questions. The pupils may use the concepts that they have already learnt to attempt the questions in Mathematics and English, before confirming their accuracy by checking at their answers. Attempting all the questions in this book will enable the candidate to answer examination questions very fast and accurately. Since speed plus accuracy is equal to success, using this book well will surely improve the speed and accuracy of the candidate; meaning that The Millennium Preparatory Questions with Answers = Speed + Accuracy, hence success of all the candidates who practice using this book, because success is the result of personal effort.
