THE MIRAGE OF MIRACLES SEEKING GENERATION! PT 1 As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah.(Lk 11:29) To begin this soul searching message, Ill begin by saying the following: 1) I believe in miracles 2) I believe the days of miracles are not over 3) Have I witnessed some miracles in my own life and ministry? Yes! Several Thus, Im not writing this note out of any bias against anyone or miracles in general. Im writing because somehow, the good has become the enemy of the best and to this generation, miracles have become principles and methods of which they arent. What would be the consequence of this mindset on this generation? This whole generation if not properly informed, may end up dying in the wilderness just like the generation, which saw the mighty works of God through Moses and yet, failed to enter their promised destiny. Miracles seeking mindset is nothing new; in the days of Christ as seen in our foundation text, he encountered the same mindset. He described those of his generation as wicked and idolatrous. I wonder what vocabulary he would use to describe the miracles seeking generation of this age. Things to know about miracles! 1) Miracles arent the purpose why Christ came to this people’s planet 2) The fall of man wasnt a fall from the miraculous 3) Jesus performed several miracles not as end, but as means to a far greater end 4) Miracles arent God’s perfect pattern of working with man 5) The ultimate is not miracles, but the understanding of the law of life in Christ Jesus, which is capable of saving humankind from the law of sin and dead 6) The miracles seeking mindset is a distraction and one of the greatest problems of present day Pentecostal and charismatic movements 7) Miracles seekers are naturally lazy; they don’t spend time in the word of God to know his will for their lives. The move from miracle rally to rally seeking cheap breakthrough 8) A Church built on miracles is not different from a public market. Jesus saw an increasing crowd of miracle seekers and he described them as wicked and idolatrous; I wonder the name he would labelled on some congregations of miracle seekers. 9) The Apostles preached Christ and miracles occurred to confirm his resurrection, they didnt go about telling people to come and receive their miracles as done today. Why? Watch out for more insight 10) If the fall of man never happened, they wouldnt have been need for miracles in the first place, thus restoring man is a greater goal not miracles 11) Does God need to perform miracles to be God? Absolutely No 12) Can we save the planet via miracles? No! If that was possible, it would have happened 13) Should miracles end? There will definitely end as the scriptures say, but for the time being, we simply need to give people the right perspective of the place and purpose of miracles and the need for a vision greater than miracles seeking. 14) Does miracles qualify someone to be called a pastor, Apostle, Bishop, etc? NO 15) Is the church wrong in the way it has exalted miracles above Christ and the kingdom revelation? Yes! Yes! The Church is prostituting the gospel, using miracles to achieve its aims and not the aim of Christ and his kingdom program Watch-out for more explanation as I continue this series. DrBenard Etta
