THE MISSING LOVE (Episode 8) The Choir Leader and his colleagues left Baba Ife’s house with a heavy heart. And not too long, the next sympathizers came in to sympathise with him. UNCLE JAMES (CHILDREN TEACHER) (together with his colleague, aunty Joy and two children at the door of Baba Ife’s living room) May the peace of the Lord be unto everyone in this house. BABA IFE And I also wish you the same. Please come inside. UNCLE JAMES Good day Sir. BABA IFE Oh! It’s you Uncle James, and our aunty Joy. Ah ah ah ah, even the little angels. God bless you. You’re all welcome. AUNTY JOY Amen sir. And thank you for welcoming us Sir. BABA IFE (turns to the little ones) Oh! God’s children, I’m happy to see you. THE TWO CHILDREN Thank you Sir. UNCLE JAMES It’s good we meet you in good spirit sir. We’re here on behalf of the Children Teachers and the Children at large to wish you well. BABA IFE Thank you my brethren. I sincerely appreciate your concerns. AUNTY JOY And it is our earnest prayer that Ife will return home very soon. UNCLE JAMES And we’re also full of hope that sooner than anyone of us can think, Ife will surely return to us. BABA IFE Amen. I also prayer so too. AUNTY JOY We also pray that those behind Ife’s missing shall be exposed. UNCLE JAMES That’s true Sir, God must exposed them, especially for the sake of the safety these little one. BABA IFE Well, let us just leave that for now. AUNTY JOY Okay Sir, we just feel that when they are exposed, we’ll be able to point them out to these little ones, so that they can always avoid them. BABA IFE So you truly mean you wish to have a clue about them? AUNTY JOY We do Sir. UNCLE JAMES That’s true Sir. Just as Aunty Joy said, it’ll help the children to know those wolves in man’s skin. BABA IFE Okay, if you insist, you’ll find a clue about them in that corner. UNCLE JAMES (together with aunty Joy in front of the mirror) Sir, we can see a standing mirror here. BABA IFE Yes, the clue is in the mirror. AUTY JOY In the mirror? How then do we get to see it? UNCLE JAMES Aunty Joy, can’t you see that it’s our image that is in the mirror? AUNTY JOY But that is normal, so Baba Ife can’t be referring to our images in the mirror. Or, are you the one that kidnapped Ife? UNCLE JAMES How can you ask me such a question? BABA IFE Uncle James, your observation was right. UNCLE JAMES My observation was right? BABA IFE Yes, those images were among those responsible for Ife’s where about. AUNTY JOY Ah! Baba Ife! How can that be? BABA IFE One of the most honourable duties God regards and appreciates is to be a teacher to these little ones. Many people do not see that work as anything serious, but God is always happy with the few that deemed it fit to use their time and strength in teaching the children. Yorubas use to say that “the cow that does not have tail, it is God that helps it in chasing away the flies.” Such is the way I see you the Children Teachers. Both in our church services and also at schools, you children teachers are those in charge of these children. You’ve become a god to them. They tend to accept your opinion better than their parent’s a time. And God loves it. They are His heritage and He loves those who love them. Yes, He cares for those who care for these little ones. UNCLE JAMES In what way then have we become guilty? BABA IFE Children learn in so many ways, but the two prominent ways are by speaking to them and by our actions, or call it attitude. You become guilty from the moment it becomes your attitude in living a double life in the presence of these children. It is true you do teach them very well; like telling them not to steal, not to tell a lie, no to fight, not to be disobedient, not to be lazy, not to be involved in immoralities and many more. But these same children have caught you several times in those negative acts, but what you always say in your heart is that “they don’t understand anything”. However, anytime any of them summons the courage to question such attitude, you’ll rather shut him up or give an excuse to defend the action. AUNTY JOY (turns to Uncle James) Uncle James, can you hear this. You know this is part of what I used to say in our meeting. BABA IFE Look at these poor children, though not written on their foreheads but they are confused. They seem to be happy simply because they are still children. But the double life style they have also been learning from you is nothing but a time bomb. Has it ever bordered on why some youth are no longer yielding to good morals they were taught while they were children? It’s simply because the then time bomb had exploded. Look at these ones too, they are doing well now both in our churches and at schools, but no one can tell what their attitude will turn out to be by the time the time bomb you’re setting in their life will blast off. Ife left without saying goodbye because the harms your double life style is causing in the life of these little ones are enormous. UNCLE JAMES Hmm, hmm, hmm! This is a serious mess we’re in. AUNTY JOY A serious one indeed. BABA IFE I hope you’ll understand. These children are God’s, and want them to be well trained in the way of the Lord. I hope you’ll turn a new leaf so that these children can learn the godly life from your attitudes. Is most likely that Ife will return if you he gets to hear about your new life. Please excuse me; I need to have some rest now. UNCLE JAMES It’s okay sir. We’ll also be on our way too. BABA IFE (turns to the children) Children, God bless you. CHILDREN Amen sir. Thank you sir. This was how the Children Teachers representatives also left Baba Ife’s place with guilt. Baba Ife was again left with the burden of his missing child, Ife. NOTE: This is not the end of the story yet, the story still continues next week by God’s grace.
