THE NAME NIGERIA Although Im not a Researcher, Philosopher or Professor of History. But I never came across any picture, landmarks or historical site anywhere online, books etc which said culled from Nigerian history.. But I have seen Hausa, Nri, Ife, Fulani, Opobo etc. But seeing other peoples in Africa photos and landmarks bears the country from where the picture was taken. For example Sudan, Egypt, Ethiopia etc. Eg. peoples of Ethiopia, Egypt, Sudan, Swaziland, Ghana, Congo etc. Is it because of a name given to us by Lord Lugard in 1914 Nigeria which was not derived from any monument, landmark, peoples but a name suggested to Lord Lugard by his girlfriend and he bought it and proclaimed From now on you are named Nigeria. What an insult? The white folks and their mentality! Is that name part of our problem? A name that has no history nor meaning. Look at other nations in Africa. Egypt, Sudan, Chad, Niger, Congo, Botswana, Cameroun, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Swaziland etc. These names flow with history. You can tell peoples identity with their country but not Nigeria.
