THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE: When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah - TopicsExpress

THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE: When Sanballat the Horonite, and Tobiah the servant, the Ammonite, heard of it, it grieved them exceedingly that there was come a man to seek the welfare of the children of Israel. (Nehemiah 2:10 KJV) The most potent weapon that can unify a family, a community or a nation is communication. When you talk to one another frequently you get to know each other very well, and it helps you to communicate the more. In the absence of communication, people work with assumptions and end up bottling up their feelings. When the bottle is filled up, you may end up in fisticuffs all for the wrong reasons. It is for this reason that the on-going conference is a welcome development. There are certainly lots of advantages. For this reason I will continue to pray for its success. Like most other positive steps that families, communities and nations take, there will always be those who will oppose it. Some, out of misunderstanding, some out of mischief and others because by so doing their source of livelihood will be blocked. There are those who thrive better during conflicts while others benefit from other peoples reproach. These are the Tobiases and Sanballats of the environment. Many have opposed the conference citing legalistic considerations. That it is not sanctioned by the constitution, the same constitution that guarantees freedom of association and assembly and speech. Do we need constitutional direction to discuss, share opinion and take advantage of the moment? Some argue against the conference because they have been excluded. Others because of fears that their comfort zones may be disrupted, others because as experts they must be consulted on all issues and assured that they are not at disadvantage before the conference can proceed. There are others who do not believe in themselves let alone believe in the nation. Others do it in the name of opposition politics, to discourage the government in power from moving forward. The scripture records that: But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites, heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth...... Nehemiah 4:7 KJV There are those who must be drivers in every vehicle otherwise the vehicle must be accidented. There are very numerous categories of pessimists who believe nothing good should come from the President. No, not this one! But leadership is not of inheritance in a civilian regime. Even where it is of inheritance, God chooses and appoints leaders, and He decides when they leave. Nehemiah was determined just as he was destined to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem regardless of the vehemence of opposition: Nehemiah 6:15-16 KJV So the wall was finished in the twenty and fifth day of the month Elul, in fifty and two days. [16] And it came to pass, that when all our enemies heard thereof, and all the heathen that were about us saw these things, they were much cast down in their own eyes: for they perceived that this work was wrought of our God. Just like Nehemiah, with the help of God, rebuilt the walls of Jerusalem, our prayers are with those who are at the conference now and ready to help this country overcome some of its challenges. No opposition can stop this work. God will grant the conference great success.
