THE NEED FOR LABORERS In Wednesday’s lesson of the standard quarterly the featured text of Scripture is Matthew 9:36-38: “BUT WHEN HE SAW THE MULTITUDES, HE WAS MOVED WITH COMPASSION ON THEM, BECAUSE THEY FAINTED, AND WERE SCATTERED ABROAD, AS SHEEP HAVING NO SHEPHERD. THEN SAITH HE UNTO HIS DISCIPLES, - THE HARVEST TRULY IS PLENTEOUS, BUT THE LABORERS ARE FEW; PRAY YE THEREFORE THE LORD OF THE HARVEST, THAT HE WILL SEND FORTH LABORURERS INTO HIS HARVEST.” This Scripture opens before our minds the immense harvest that is waiting to be gathered and the compelling need for workers in God’s cause. In 1 Corinthians 3: 6 Paul wrote: “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.” Through the process of saving souls – Gods witnesses are an extremely and important and vital part of the process. Now notice another verse in the same chapter: “For we are labourers together with God…” 1 Corinthians 3:9 This phrase is quoted over 1,400 times in the writings of Ellen White! And this is one of the foremost and compelling subjects that the Sprit of God has urged upon us – God is depending on human beings to co-operate with Him in the great work for the salvation of lost souls! Please note the following: “God depends on those who know the way to show it to others.” 5T 568
