THE NEED TO BE CLEAR ON CULTURE PRESENTATION AND PRESERVATION I.E TUGENIN CULTURE.....As we are a 21st Century generation we need to revisit our past and pick from the analogue things to ensure a better Digital generation. Culture plays a great role in pointing a clear direction to our generation.Ofcourse there are those cultures which are wayward but every coin has both sides..Allow me to take sometime trying to evaluate on the merits of culture preservation..Marjorie M.Oludhe a Novelist wrote thatWe pick from culture what befits our times and leave aside the wayward ones...again,Our Kenyan Constitution 2010 clearly outlines these..... Article 7 obliges the state to promote and protect the diversity of language of the people of Kenya. The state is also obliged to promote the development and use of indigenous languages. Article 11 recognizes culture as the foundation of the nation and obliges the state to promote all forms of cultural expression through literature, the arts, traditional celebrations, science, communication, information, mass media, publications, libraries and other cultural heritage.....As if that is not enough,We have a Ministry of Sports,Culture and Heritage,We have Museums,We have Bomas of Kenya where Traditional dancers perform....What am I driving at,I want to elaborate that by Promoting a TUGENIN CULTURAL DAY every one day in December we are not going against the government or the church. We are trying to be part and parcel of our community and identify with our past....As long as we still engage in Traditional (KOE) engagement, still greet our parents and elders with respect, use traditional names as identification and also engage in barter trade(Tany nebo Kail) and keep traditional beehives, we ought to preserve our culture. Why shouldnt we support this event and allow our kids and the other young ones learn the best of what our fore fathers used to do?...Why cant we separate Religion from this festive events and enjoy our God given culture?.... Thanks goes to all who took part in last years one and enjoyed themselves..
