THE ODM ORGANISATION IS BEHIND EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED IN KENYA......INSECURITY NI NYINYI MMELETA...WHY IS IT THAT THESE THINGS ARE HAPPENING AFTER U LOST THE ELECTION...CONTINUUE KILLING MORE PPLE WITH BOMBS Uhuru worse than Kibaki, claims ODM The Jubilee government is corrupt, tribal and incompetent, ODM claimed on Friday. Tweet ADVERTISEMENT The Jubilee government is corrupt, tribal and incompetent, ODM claimed on Friday. The party, whose leader Raila Odinga lost to Mr Uhuru Kenyatta in the last elections, cited State appointments, insecurity, unemployment and famine as some of the areas of concern. ODM’s acting party leader Anyang’ Nyong’o said the Jubilee administration was worse than the Kibaki regime and proposed changes to jumpstart the economy and bring down the cost of living. In a detailed statement reacting to the President’s State of the Nation speech made in Parliament on Thursday, Prof Nyong’o said that in the last one year it has been in power, the Jubilee government has been “inattentive” to problems affecting Kenya. The ODM report summed the government’s performance as one that lacks a roadmap. “There is a feeling that public matters are being approached rather casually and problems are being dealt with in an impromptu basis. There does not seem to be a line of action going a certain direction,” he said while addressing the media at the Orange House in Nairobi. The party examined the government’s performance in areas such as unity of the nation, economy and the cost of living, crime, education, corruption and the rule of law. Prof Nyong’o asked President Kenyatta to provide Kenyans with facts and figures to back his expectations — such as what will drive the projected economic growth of six per cent this year. Not just reacting The President’s speech was accompanied by two reports, which have not yet been made public, but are expected to be tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. “Can we have a report on the price of basic commodities from March last year to this month? I do not think it will be convincing to say the cost of living has gone down,” he posed. He said that over the last one year, ODM has been keeping the government on its toes and was not just reacting to the President’s address. “Kenyans deserve much better than what we are getting,” the party representative said. Prof Nyong’o noted that in his address, the President failed to touch on the unity of the country, yet according to ODM, Kenyans are now “more divided than ever before.” “Equally requiring our attention is our economy and the cost of living. We need urgent, immediate and sustained rethinking in the cost of living that is making life unbearable for wage earners,” he said. Attack in Likoni On security, ODM complained that the Inspector General of Police is yet to explain in detail the latest attack in Likoni. They also accused the President and his deputy of failing to take the attacks seriously and instead addressing it in passing on their way to Tanzania. According to the party, which is a member of the main opposition coalition Cord, the government has not addressed the issue of insecurity. “When terrorists issue threats and act on them while the government issues threats and fails to act, we know we are on our own as citizens,” Prof Nyong’o said. ODM also called for the set up of two Parliamentary Select Committees—one to investigate last year’s Westgate attack and another to focus on the rising problem of poaching. They compared the government’s performance on taxation to that of the Narc regime. “In the Narc government, our policy was to broaden the tax base and reduce the tax rate. The policy of this government to increase the tax rate for everybody without paying attention to broaden the tax base is retrogressive and makes the ordinary Kenya bear too much weight,” Prof Nyong’o explained. The senator said that low earners in the country are struggling to pay rent, cannot afford food, school fees and bus fare. But instead of creating jobs, the government is talking about salary cuts, and retrenchment of workers. Political agendas The party official also called on the Jubilee government to use its numerical strength in Parliament to come up with administrative, regulatory and legislative measures to help Kenyans start and expand businesses instead of using it for political agendas only
