THE ORIGINAL AAM AADMI HERO: The common man had the real hero 25 years ago inform of Vishwanath Pratap Singh who sacrificed power in order to fight corruption before becoming prime minister. He confounded his critics by never seeking office after he was ousted but remained in public life and worked for common men of delhi-who can forget his arrest in Dadri where he challenged the land grabbing by Reliance power and also ask any one in jhuggi jhopri of Delhi-how V.P.Singh fought for their settlement. His earlier crusade for clean politics and his conviction for social justice and equality to this highly fractured society and the country is history and the huge opposition to this implementation of Mandal commission then by leading opposition parties like BJP and Congress and then gradual and slow acceptance of the need for this protection and endorsement by supreme court and dilution of hatred for this divisive claim by some finally led to no dispute on the reservation but the ultimate execution and misuse by some backward class leaders. The parallels with current events are inevitable : just as Singh represented the underclass, empowered the subaltern and believed that it was more important to be honest than to be prime minister there is another person with similar views on the horizon Arwind Kejriwal. The difference however is that Singh in rising above stereotypes addressing complex ideological challenges in indian society had proven track record of experience and sagacity-Arwind has lot of promise and could be the hero for future provided he shows the same tenacity to work for people irrespsctive of whether he remain in power or not.
