THE ORIGINAL DESIGN Put on the new self,created to be like God EPH 4:24 NIV In the clothing industry all clothes sent out into retail shops are copies of the designers original pattern.The designer mocks up a drawing of what he or she thinks the garment should look like and a skilled machinist puts just one together to try it out and to show it to the buyers from the shops.Then hundreds - maybe thousands - are made as copies of that original garment. In Pauls thought,with no knowledge of modern manufacturing processes,Christian believers are to model themselves on the original design - God himself.He showed the human race what the pattern was when Jesus Christ came into the world at Bethlehem.People were not made to be dishonest,greedy,and violent.They were made to be like God.The book of Genesis put it, God created human beings,making them to be like himself.One modern theologian said, God created us with a God-shaped blank. The task of the spiritual life is to fill that God-shaped blank with the original - God himself.Jesus Christ presents us with the ideal representation of God in human form.The more like Christ we become,the more we imitate God himself.If you think of the person who is the most Christian individual you know,you will find that there are certain characteristics in that person that remind you of Jesus Christ.And when the Holy Spirit is actively working in you he will be forming Jesus Christ in you so that you live after the pattern of Jesus - with kindness,love,joy,faith and peace becoming ever more apparent in you.This is what you were intended to be. Lord,you made me to be like.Help me to become like you.
