THE PACE-SETTER. My good friend Thomas, came on holiday to the city of Ibadan from Germany and was complaining of Water scarcity in his resident area of Agbowo. He brutally condemned government insensitivity to the plight of Oyo state citizens as he claimed that the government further made livelihood hard for them when they started billing each house tenement charges. So I boldly told him that he was totally wrong as he had allowed his impatience to judge the working Governor. Then on this particular day, I went to his house and decided to take him round the city that he may see with his eyes the good works of the government. Driving his big bus, we got to the Round-About of Mokola area where the newly constructed beautiful fly-over bridge is, our vehicle could not pass through the bridge because of the barricade; and after spending close to 40minutes in the traffic he then asked me of the usefulness of a fly over which can not reduce traffic congestion. And I told him that the 3billion naira bridge was not constructed to reduce traffic but to beautify the state. As our journey continued, we got to Dugbe area where the state workers- O-Yes! Were seizing goods from children hawking goods meanwhile right beside them we saw MTN Marketers displaying their product without any problem. Then this my inquisitive friend also asked why the MTN Marketers could not be arrested as with those dirty hawkers; again I replied him that MTN Marketers have swags furthermore the company itself is a brand so they must not be tampered with. Eventually, we reached Ring road area; and we parked our bus at a Lay-by. We then crossed the road; and there I showed him the beautiful Cascade constructed to add aesthetic to our environment. And again my impatient friend asked of what benefit is a waterfall when majority of the masses cant get water? I shouted him down by telling him that our government is working steadily and it is one thing at a time, by the time he finished taking care of our environment, he will start to touch lives. I even showed him one of our beautiful Round-About ring that was well decorated, furnished and rugged. Eventually we decided to go back to our vehicle so that we could head home, and when we got there; we saw the state government towing vehicle preparing to tow our bus! What happened we asked, then one of the officials said we were causing road obstruction. In annoyance my friend said obstructing vehicles at a lay-by? All the towing staffs said yes, government said cars must not park here again and your fine is just 40, 000naira!!!
