THE PARABLE OF THE PRODIGAL SON. Part One. THE FIRST SON WAS A GOOD GUY. A very wealthy man who lived in Lagos, Nigeria had two sons. The first son was Richard while the younger son was Jones. This rich man owned enormous properties all over Nigeria and abroad. The first son, Richard lived with his wife and three kids in Los Angeles, Carlifonia, while Jones lived with his wife in South Africa. In the process of time, this wealthy man became very ill, so ill that he was no longer able to do so many things without assistance. The eldest son left his family and business, and flew back to Nigeria to take care of their dad. Several phone calls were made to Jones(the younger son) who always promised to come home to see their father; but unfortunately he never did. Richard stayed in Nigeria for there months, helping to run their fathers business empire and also taking care of him until he passed on. What a lost! A wealthy man was gone. Much money couldnt keep him alive. Heavy preparations were made towards the burial ceremony. Richard laboured all through this period, but Jones was no where to be found. Two days to the burial ceremony of their father, Jones arrived with his wife. No one could really tell what kept him that long. It was a red letter and a befitting burial ceremony: a successful one indeed. Two days after they had laid their fathers body to rest, issues started coming up. Jones had shown his real intention for coming back home. All you would hear from him was stuffs like, Wow, that car is nice, am going to have it. That mansion over there is one of its kind, I believe that dad would have wanted me to have it. Man, am in need of cash: am going to sell the property in Ghana. Now friends, if you were the elder son, would you give Jones the green light and allow him to do whatever he wanted? After all you laboured to save dads live, here comes your younger brother from nowhere laying claim on everything. I know you are all born again and Spirit filled, I personally, dont think I would sit there and allow him mess around those properties. I know that this story is quite different from the story of the Parable Prodigal Son in the Bible, but my intention is to show that the elder son in the Bible wasnt a wicked person. Yes, he refused to come home because he was just human. I believe so many of us will react much worse than he did. Our preacher have vehemently maligned this elder son. So many negative things have been said concerning this guy. Some people are like, Oh my God, that guy is a devil. He wasnt a devil. He was just returning home from a hard days work, helping to build his fathers wealth. He may not have done the right thing, yet he was not a wicked person. I can only point out his major fault. HIS MAJOR MISTAKES. 1. He never asked his wealthy father for his needs. Dont assume that God knows your needs, the bible says ASK! 2. The didnt understand the power of grace. Grace, what a powerful force. In the second part of this article, I will explain the real meaning of that parable.
