THE PEOPLE OF TURKANA TURKANA 25TH OCT, 2013 THE TURKANA LEADERS Dear Sirs/Madams, RE: SAVE TURKANAS IN DIASPORA URGENTLY Greetings to all of you our leaders. I hope you are doing great. As the subject of this letter suggests, there is a need to save Turkanas living in diaspora especially those in Baragoi and Samburu at large. This is in response to the current media war perpetrated by some leaders from Samburu. There is no doubt that that a deliberate effort is being taken to expel Turkanas living there. Turkanas are vilified by being branded as cattle rustlers. If this goes unchecked, it will breach peace and harmony that the two communities have enjoyed for a long time. In the end we will see an uggly animosity and mistrust among neighbours and at such point in time it will lead to an all out war. This is a time bomb which calls for an urgent action to be undertaken. There is nothing precious like peace. Let’s leave war for another day, if possible after we have died. We should be concentrating on ways of developing our country instead of drumming and singing war songs. We should play war games in computers but not in Suguta Valley or any known notorious battle fields. One need not be a genius to dismiss news by some media quarters as propaganda and fake. They are based on emotion and rumour. It is cooked up stories. It is sad when journalists take sides instead of being impartial. It is unethical and unprofessional. Why do you report one sided stories? Do you have evidence of what you are saying. I don’t expect such below average and sensational reporting in this 21st century. I condemn your pathetic reporting. Shame on all of you. With great deal of confidence, I can state that those advocating for the expulsion of Turkanas are doing so for fear of the unknown. Whatever the cause of their fear and panic can only be explained by them. What I suspect is that they fear that the growing number of Turkanas. The only option for them to silence and halt aggressive growth of the Turkanas is to use propaganda and cast aspersion by calling us livestock thieves and mass murderers. But I can tell them pole sana. You can’t silence the Great People of the Great Turkana. We are God’s people. We have survived many challenges and calamities before. No doubt that we will get over this in God’s name and all your evil efforts will be defeated. Your sinister motives in the name of fighting for your people will backlash and work against you. My advice to you is that seek peaceful means to dress any burning issue or hatred you have for the Turkanas. As far as I know is that Turkanas are the most peace loving and peaceful people in the universe. Take it to the bank if you have one. It is on record that Turkanas never start wars. They are always on the defence. Now is the time we rise up against incitement. Finally, I request all leaders and those who find this call for action to move with speed to tell off those peddling rumours and prophets of doom that they are mistaken. They should be stopped from taking us back to Medieval times! I will appreciate your quick response and action as time is not on our side. With regards, Echuman Koriang.
