THE PERIL OF HYPOCRISY AND FRUITLESSNESS: 1Peter.2:1-2. Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings, As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: Ezekiel.33:30-32. Also, thou son of man, the children of thy people still are talking against thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from the Lord. And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but they will not do them: for with their mouth they shew much love, but their heart goeth after their covetousness. And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. There are two words that are very important in our topic this morning they are the words hypocrisy and fruitlessness. One leads to the other when someone is hypocritical such a person will also be fruitless, because a hypocrite can never bear the fruit of the Spirit and of righteousness. As children of God, God wants us to be honest, upright, and straight forward and truthful it is this that will make us to be fruitful in life and ministry. Hypocrisy and fruitlessness attracts the wrath and judgement of God. Job.15:34-35. For the congregation of hypocrites shall be desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery. They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit. WOE ON HYPOCRITES: Mt.23:13-16, 23-29; Luke.12:1-2; Mk.12:13-16; 1Timothy.4:1-2; Job.15:34; Job.27:8-10; Pro.11:9. What makes our loving Lord and master to pronounce woe on people must be very serious and grave. Any one who indulge in the practice of hypocrisy is deceiving himself and not God because God knows all things. The bible says that the triumphing of the hypocrite is short and that the fire shall destroy the tabernacle of the hypocrite and bribery. Hell fire is waiting the hypocrite if he refuses to repent of his sins and accept Christ as Lord and Saviour. WARNING AGAINST FRUITLESSNESS: John.15:1-2; Luke.13:6-10; Mt.3:8-10; The Lord said and every branch in me that beareth not fruits He the father will take away. This is a great warning to every one of us God desires us to be fruitful and fruitlessness will be judged severely by God. What type of fruits is God looking for in our lives? (1) Fruit of repentance. Mt.3:8. (2) The fruit of the Spirit. Gal.5:22-23. (3) The fruit of righteousness. Phil.1:11. (4) The fruit of goodness. James.3:17-18; Col.1:10. (5) The fruit of holiness. Rom.6:22. (6) The fruit of perfection. Luke.8:14-15. (7) The fruit of soul winning. John.15:2-6, 16. WAY OUT OF HYPOCRISY AND FRUITLESSNESS: John.15:4-7; 1Peter.2:1-2; Ps.1:1-3; Ps.92:12-14; 2Peter.1:4-8. To be free from hypocrisy and fruitlessness one need to take the following steps. (1) Acknowledge your wrongs and sins. Ps.51:2-5. (2) Abandon your sinful practices and hypocrisy. Isaiah.55:6-7. (3) Accept Christ into your heart as your Lord and Saviour. Rev.3:20. (4) Abide in Christ always. John.15:4-7. (5) Assimilate the word of God daily in quiet time and morning devotion. Ps.119:9-11. (6) Abstain from the company of hypocrites and unserious believers. 1Cor.15:33-34; Eph.5:11. (7) Associate your self with heaven minded believers. Heb.10:24-25; 1Peter.4:17-18. The Lord’s desire is for all his children to live a life totally free from hypocrisy and be fruitful in life.
