THE PINNACLE ROCK, THE CLIMBER, AND NESTING BIRDS. Yesterday we - TopicsExpress

THE PINNACLE ROCK, THE CLIMBER, AND NESTING BIRDS. Yesterday we featured a picture of the stream beneath the Pinnacle Rock, taken by Shane Boschat. Following that post Shane contacted us with some information and sent us a picture in high resolution of the Pinnacle rock itself. The photo is pretty good in its own right, but there is another side to this story. Shane is a member of the team of CIOS guardians who look after the bunker and observation tower. When he took this shot Shane was looking for traces of German WW2 booby traps from the Occupation. Every time he goes there is something new to see, and this picture shows an example, There was a man on the Pinnacle climbing down from the very top at very high speed. Then he rushed down the slope and up the cliff at high speed. We have picked him out from the main picture and circled him in red on the second. You can (maybe) see that he was wearing camouflage gear and was very hard to pick out, so we assume he knows he wasnt supposed to be there. In the photo he is crouching down looking to see how far the drop the next ledge was. The rock is not allowed to be scaled in the nesting season so it is possible that birds eggs were the reason that the climber decided to scale the rock. Shane has been told that falcons may be nesting on the Pinnacle. In any case he has no regard for our wildlife. (In 2010 a man was sentenced to 30 months in prison for smuggling a clutch of Peregrine Falcon eggs to Dubai. The eggs were valued at £70,000.) If you can shed more light on this please contact us. There is a page detailing the societys work on the bunkers at Les Landes and elsewhere. MP3 and Batteries Moltke: https://facebook/groups/MP3.tower.jersey/?fref=ts
