THE PIT A man fell into a pit and couldnt get himself out. A sympathetic and famous social worker came along in his Merc and said, I really feel for you down there. It must be so cold down there. I remember when I too was stuck in a dark house...... He droned on as his funding agencies gloated over their glossy Corporate Social Responsibility report full of his activities with the downtrodden. A group of social butterflies going for a fund raiser walked by hurriedly and said, Its logical that someone would fall down there. A holy priest said, Only bad people fall into pits. A mathematician calculated how deep the pit was. A news reporter covered the exclusive story on the pit. He went to investigate who dug that pit and to find who was to blame fot it remaining uncovered and a hazard to people walking. He hid a great news show on the pit and thundered upon those he decided should be held responsible. The reporter even got an award for his coverage and pictures of the pit and the man in it. A self-pitying person said to the fallen man, You havent seen anything! Wait until youve seen my pit. And walked away. A fire-and-brimstone preacher said, You deserve your pit. Its your own bad karma that had got you there! And laughed as he pointed out the man to his blind following as a warning before zooming off in his private jet. A new age Zen practitioner observed, The pit is just in your mind. And got back to his contemplations. A psychologist noted, Your mother and father are to blame for your being in that pit. A self-esteem therapist said, Believe in yourself and you can get out of that pit. An optimistic film star, Member of Parliament looking busy weilding her broom in a cordon of security said, Things could be worse. A pessimistic citizen burdened with heavy loans and taxes claimed, Things will get worse. A master arrived, and upon seeing the man, took him by the hand, lifted him out of the pit and tended to him before walking away.
