THE POVERTY OF A FREEBIES MINDSET... As for me di333r since 2012 anytime I hear something is FREE, I always ask about its QUALITY. There was an overwhelming need for access to education but this nation agreed going the free way, was not the way to go and go back and check my updates back then, I was in full agreement and debated my good friend Dr Nathanael Adjei-Kyeremeh severally on this. Can anyone tell me how I have now lost the debate? This nation has many challenges that threaten the realisation of the dreams of every child. One of those certainly include the neglected issue of Menstrual Health of our Teenage sisters in less endowed communities. But by God, the solution is not in this tokenism, it has to be deeper and far reaching than contracting a loan to procure sanitary towels for free distribution. How sustainable is that? What happens when the loan facility is used up, contract another loan? In 5 years most of these girls would have moved on to the tertiary levels of education and there would be new girls in that bracket. So we have to serve those in the Secondary as well have Tertiary (cos their economic conditions wouldnt have improved yet) or would they have reached menopause already? And let no man accuse me of trivialising the issue. Otherwise Id pull commentary about rejecting free education which was more pedestrian. How about ensuring that loan is used properly to provide quality washrooms in schools or mass registration of these girls on the NHIS scheme and ensure the NHIS arrears owed the CHAG hospitals are paid so do not continue to turn away these girls who report with dysmenorrhea or menorrhagia, or scrapping import taxes on sanitary towels to reduce cost or calling on companies who freely supported the World Cup Ambassadors to donate to this worthy cause as well or adequately resourcing the RCH (reproductive & Child Health) units of health centres to expand services to reach girls in such distress or setting up an industry to produce local cost effective alternatives or empowering the not for profits who are already doing this to secure grants not loans from the multinationals and the likes or...... Anything else that is more sustainable and far reaching......But by God a loan for consumables....? Nathanael Adjei-Kyeremeh, please come for your stone! Signed, #Yours_still_passionate_about_quality_leadership! #Occupant_Citizen #OccupyGhana
