THE POWER OF CALMNESS Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm.-Matthew 8:23-26 *This is one of my favorite stories in the Bible, and I feel that it just has that superhero ending. I mean theres a storm going on, people are in panic and Jesus is sleeping. I know when I sleep, I go into semi-coma but it would be impossible for me sleep with a fiercely rocking boat and with thunder storm going on. I can imagine Jesus calmly coming out of the cabin, and calmly saying wind and water be still. Everything immediately stopping and going calm like nothing happened, him yawning and going back to bed. Such peace and calmness oozed from Jesus. The story just wont make sense if Jesus had also joined in on the panic frenzy. So everytime Im struck with an unexpected stressful situation, I remember this story. I remember that I need to be calm so I can think clearly, to act upon my faith so that I can calmly find an effective solution quickly. Panic shuts down your brain, worry creates a situation that doesnt exist and well crying wont solve anything except maybe ease the tension and shock. But the point of the matter is to always stay calm no matter what, speak to your situation and tell it that you are control, find a solution and act upon it with faith. Heavenly Father, thank you for granting me a calm spirit. Thank you that no matter what storm comes my way I will beable to handle it in perfect peace. I trust in You Lord for I know that it is by Your grace and mighty hand that I am able to speak to mountains and storms. Thank you for granting me the authority and power to be in control of what goes on in my life and aligning all that I am with Your Will. In Jesus Name.
