THE PRICE FOR YESTERDAY So David said to the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? How can I make atonement that you may bless the Lords inheritance? The Gibeonites... said to the king...Let seven men of his sons be delivered to us and we will hang them up before the Lord at Gibeah of Saul, [on the mountain] of the Lord. And the king said, I will give them. Saul in his zeal had violated an almost 400 years old Covenant entered by the Children of Israel with the Gibeonites. The consequences of his actions never came to the fore until the latter reign of David as King after the death of Saul. David didnt even know that King Saul had broken any covenant that would have dire consequences but the repercussions began in his reign. To appease and atone for the broken covenant, Sauls seven INNOCENT sons were hanged and their blood shed to cleanse the land of Israel from the curse and punishments associated with the broken covenant. Beloved, probably, you are suffering the consequences of a broken covenant made over your life many years ago by your forbears or the covenant you entered yourself, like David, you can make inquiries into your past, then repent, confess your sins and that of your forbears and lay claim to the blood of Jesus Christ. If the blood of Sauls seven children who were mere mortal and sinful men could serve as an atonement how much more the blood of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. The Scripture in Hebrews 9 vs. 13 - 15 says For if [the mere] sprinkling of unholy and defiled persons with blood of goats and bulls and with the ashes of a burnt heifer is sufficient for the purification of the body, How much more surely shall the blood of Christ, Who by virtue of [His] eternal Spirit [His own preexistent divine personality] has offered Himself as an unblemished sacrifice to God, purify our consciences from dead works and lifeless observances to serve the [ever] living God? [Christ, the Messiah] is therefore the Negotiator and Mediator of an [entirely] new agreement (testament, covenant), so that those who are called and offered it may receive the fulfillment of the promised everlasting inheritance–since a death has taken place which rescues and delivers and redeems them from the transgressions committed under the [old] first agreement. In fact, under the Law almost everything is purified by means of blood, and without the shedding of blood there is neither release from sin and its guilt nor the remission of the due and merited punishment for sins. The Blood of Jesus has cleansed you. You are redeemed. You are saved and free. You are released from sin and all the guilt and consequences that sins of the past and present brought upon your life only if you are submitted to the Lordship of Jesus. Dont continue to pay the price of sins and broken covenants of yesterday by yourself. It has been paid for you on the Cross. THEREFORE, [there is] now no condemnation (no adjudging guilty of wrong) for those who are in Christ Jesus, who live [and] walk not after the dictates of the flesh, but after the dictates of the Spirit. Romans 8 vs. 1
