THE PROBLEM WITH ANTIQUE BEDS: Antique beds are beautiful and often very appealing, but there is a huge problem with using them for modern bedrooms and sleeping--they are too small. King size and even Queen size beds are a relatively modern concept and most antique beds are just too small to be practical. In addition to being too narrow, they are often too short, as well. The near museum quality bed that is featured in our Luxe room at the new SAYLES LANDMARK, was made in upstate New York sometime right after the Civil War. It was signed by the maker, which is a bit unusual, and the headboard is 9 ½ feet tall. The half-tester canopy is at 14 feet. We negotiated for nearly 2 years, in order to secure it, and the effort was well worth it! Our accomplished carpenter, Emmet Lovelady, solved the size problem by stretching this antique bed and making a King size bed out of it. He made it wider and longer. As you can imagine, this was no small task, but he did a fabulous job. We now have the best of both worlds--a truly rare, antique masterpiece that is a modern, King size bed with a fabulous, high quality mattress set! There will be no frumpy, uncomfortable beds at the Sayles Landmark! We just wont allow it! And neither should you! Sayles Landmark--a boutique hotel alternative. Reserve your place in history! 325-669-6856
