THE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE SYSTEM HAS COLLAPSED UNDER THE LONG RULE OF NAVEEN PATTNAIK. HE HAS A STRATEGY TO PROMOTE THE BUSINESS OF THE CORPORATE HOSPITALS. 1. Out of 4800 sanctioned posts of Allopathic doctors in govt hospitals, nearing 2400 positions are lying vacant. Instead of recruiting doctors through proper advertisement, the govt is making a false propaganda that doctors are not interested to work in govt hospitals. 2. The govt is not filling up hundreds of vacant positions in the 3 medical colleges. Thereby both teaching and patient care is affected. 3. The AIIMS Bhubaneswar is not recruiting teachers/consultant doctors and now refering patients to other hospitals in the state. What a paradox ? The Indian Express reported before 2weeks that 8 teachers had resigned and ran away seeing the influx of patients there. Most doctors working there are appointed on contract but not on a regular basis. 4. Sambalpur city is suffering with Hepatitis epidemic since last 8 months. The govt has failed to find a remedy to contain the epidemic. 5. In Malkangiri several children have died recently with encephalitis like disease. As of now the Indian Council of Medical Research (2 centres in Odisha), 3 govt medical colleges have failed to diagnose the cause of this disease. 6. A large number of people are suffering from Kidney diseases, Cancer, Diabetes complications and Heart diseases. The poor people are left for dying with these ailments. The govt hospitals have no facilities or free treatment for most of these diseases. We notice that new corporate hospitals are opening in the state one after the other. None of them provide free treatment to the poor though there is a paper instruction from the govt to do so. In summary the govt has failed or deliberately neglecting the public health care delivery system so that the corporate hospitals do brisk business. People of the state must rise to demand the govt to provide appropriate health care to them.
