THE REASON WE DO IT . . . ” Saturday, July 12th, 2014 SCRIPTURE: Romans 14:12-23 This is a passage every Christian should commit to memory. Once understood, it gives reason and motivation to every decision we must make regarding our relationship to others. As Paul says, there are many things which we perhaps could do by ourselves: i.e., things which would not alter our relationship with God. But when these same things in any way offend an¬other — no matter how insignificant it may seem to us — this is not something we as disciples can afford to do, Nor can we expect others to understand our motivation or reason for doing what we do. The world is being taught to search for individual happiness for Self — not for God — so what Christ commanded is completely opposite to what the world seeks or desires. We cannot measure our response by the popular mores of the crowd. We have only one Person, and one incentive: that all men may be brought to know God through the beauty and perfection of His Son. Prayer: Lord, so much of my defensiveness and ineffectiveness could he removed if I loved Thee more and put my responsibility to others before myself. Help me to do this, Lord. AMEN
