THE REMINISCENCE OF MY CHILDHOOD AND THE UNIQUENESS OF ADAOBI Then my parents enrolled me into a kindergarten school which was a stone throw from our place of residence. As little as I was then, I think I could describe the nature of my Ota Akara school and its environs. Though, it wasnt a luxurious nursery school but it enjoyed the patronage of children who lived within my vicinity. Our classroom was constructed with a wooden plank and was roofed with gbam gbam zinc. Around its premises were scanty trees and residential buildings. Some pupils sat on a long wooden desk and others on a straw mat while our teacher wrote on a black board. Judging from how authoritative and assertive the proprietress of my school sounded, I could tell that she knew her onions. One day, my proprietress who was also my teacher wrote on the board: Ahiriokwu which means Sentence in English language. She made a sentence in Igbo which was; ADA dara ada, Ada ka ADA dara. Wow, That was my name! And we had to repeat after her but I didnt fall or could it be that my teacher watched me when I fell on the ground the other day, I muttered within me. Then she switched over to making sentences in English. And she said, ADA is a girl, OBI is a boy. My classmates turned to look at me as they repeated the sentence after our teacher. If ADA is a girl and OBI is a boy, then who is ADAOBI? Well, ADAOBI is me; a unique and a beautiful creature. ADAOBIS are Gods first daughters(ADAS) in Gods royal Palace(OBI). Wer Gods Jewels created by God on a special day. ...Proudly ADAOBI!
