THE RETURN OF THE FAVORITE. SEN (DR) ALI SHERIFF. It is no longer a fairytale that politically-wise Borno has a Hero, whom many referred to as the living legend. A very few group of disgruntled element are bent at hijacking the system and rubbing the power force but much to their dismay, the legend still control the keypad. At a touch of a button, he can erase you completely from the equation monitor. The man SAS still remains an enigma in the political history of the aforementioned state. You can either like him or hate him but one can never remain neutral on his subject, this attribute keeps him on the spotlight for more than two decade, with feat never attain by anyone in the entire landscape of the northeastern region. His opponents loose their adrenalin at the mention of his name because he gives them sleepless nights and terrible nightmares, He always remain far ahead of them in political maneuvers and gerrymandering thereby enjoying reverence and the rare privilege of series of victories. Yet, he remains a verse chapter in the political encyclopedia of Nigeria. For real, every great leader has highs and lows, but this icon, despite his overwhelming victories and unprecedented achievements has not reach the twilight of his voyage yet, and is set to reach greater heights despite the phantom hurdles that lay on his ways. He finds challenges as a favorite dish and is willing to conquer them with relish. Against all odds, one can never jostle with the truth that SAS still enjoys the love, loyalty, and unflinching support of his followers. Because like the brave warrior, he never fail them In contest and whenever he stands on the podium before them, he has this special gift of feeling their pulse. They are so glued to him and his cause to a point where I can authoritatively say his die-hard supporters will follow him anywhere blindfolded and answer his call as clarion. The catalogue of myths about him seems endless. His mind, a beautiful piece of almost perfect machinery, works like a rocket scientist in terms of applying formulas and modules in solving political matrix. Even Robert Greene, the famous author of the wonder 48 laws of power will openly confess that this man had fragrantly flirted with his book especially law 2. I feel proud to make my submissions on the legacies of this great and outstanding son of Borno, after about 20yrs of closely studying him as he ventured into the world of fame by possessing all the qualities and attribute of a Hollywood star. He maintains the best garage, stock with world class Automobiles and flies coast to coast in his latest Jet (Gulfstream 650)) not to mention the three Donnier jet that are reserved for Business and domestic errands. He enjoys a unique opportunity of rubbing shoulders with the high and mighty. I saw a picture of him posing with the queen, shaking hands with the Clintons, hosted by the kharamain sharifain in KSA, holding hands with the IBBs, and playing jokes with the Commander-in-Chief. A one time member of the defunct national constitutional conference, member of a three man committee to remove this country from its pariah statue, three times distinguish senator of the federal republic, two time consecutive Governor of Borno state, recipient of both local and international awards, recipient of awards of degrees (honoris causa) from various institutions of learning, interim National chairman of a strongest opposition party in Africa the ANPP, a great facilitator in the emergence of unrivaled APC and a power broker per excellence. Quote me if I am wrong, this great and benevolent man single handedly make Governors, Federal legislatures, state legislatures, Ministers, Ambassadors and to a large extend even first class traditional rulers, alone, he build a formidable society and all its political structures acting as an umpire in check mating all the three tier plus the ruling class. In some parts of a civilized societies, these are citations where people rose in standing ovations and drums beat to their honor. In his own case , a 21-Gun salute will never be out of order. The constitution of Nigeria as amended, section 39 (1) to be exact, provides for freedom of speech and expressions but not in the way and manner people are wantonly abusing it to suit their whims and caprice. Human beings by their nature are bound to make gossips, speculate, criticize and analyze. My subject, Senator(Dr) Ali Sheriff is sank deep in the pool of such vices. Several allegations of dubious manners were labelled against him, but they were found to be empty and non-existent. As a fairly educated individual, I held the law of this land sacred, and so far, no any court of competent jurisdiction indict this man of any misgivings and the amount of malicious allegations are to heavy for any mortal to bear even if he happens to be a proverbial cat with nine lives. So, I am absolutely convinced that this man is innocent and so he remains until proven guilty. The current Volta-face that characterized the person of the legend is largely fictitious and a grand conspiracy cheaply designed by his (1) Political opponents (who suffered various degrees of defeat and disgrace) (2) Sponsored campaign of calumny by some unethical media outfit, orchestrated by Abuja boardroom politicians and their cohorts (3) A pure hatred from his kinsmen as a result of his larger-than-life attitude. This triple theory, devoid of any hypothesis, is said to be accurate. The concomitance of different fallacies lead to his lost at a senatorial polls to an inferior candidate in 2011. His adversaries organized a carnival-like celebration which openly exposed their ineptitude and a hidden vendetta not knowing that an agonizing and gargantuan defeat looms ahead and will send them helter-skelter at the grand finale. They greedily capitalize on the crisis at hand which is a global phenomena and an epidemic that infested the entire universe to promote their cause, not knowing that this is a hydra-headed monster that is let loose to devour us all (GOD FORBID). In the advent of this disproportionate euphoria, the legend maintained his cool by ignoring the convention of false discipline. Hitherto, displayed a modest decorum and exhibit spirit of sportsmanship by laying low and accepting defeat in good faith, courtesy of his harmonized individuality as a graduate of Bsc. Public Administration University of Maiduguri. (unlike his opponents, who run berserk and cry foul). However, SAS does not always relent, at the back of his mind he knows, watches, listens and he is drive with the conviction that to be absolutely polite, is the ultimate rudeness-Mafia Manager so, he can act and at will. Schemers (within and outside) are at work to stop the rise of the Godfather. But how (?) Cartel of marauders, saboteurs, mischief makers, character assassins and social network goons had amalgamated and embark on this Herculean adventure not knowing that they are in for a rough ride. Chief amongst their modus operandi are- . Heating the polity unnecessarily. . Perpetrating undue tension. . Casting aspersions to score cheap points. . Blackmail in both print and electronic media. . Hiring thugs to boo him. All these is carried out with the sole aim of making him a persona non grata in his own home and to alter the records of his unprecedented achievements. Today, SAS enjoys courtesies and command respect among his contemporaries within and outside the country. His house in Abuja is a meeting place of creme de la creme ranging from season politicians, Business moguls, top government functionaries and army Generals. When he moves, he move with the world. Does who dare his invincibility are now recoiling back to their shell for fear of being labelled as traitors and to those who stood their ground, their palpable fear and guilt lay like a deep fissure at their very core, in the end it split wide open and destroy them. For the first time in the history of Borno state the political train is altering course, Ali Sheriff is aligning with the centre for good, the wind of change has started blowing and it will sweep away any unfit structure on its part and only the brave survives. Here is a man who was born in riches but chooses to mingle with the commoners and achieve greatness. Here is a man who plotted his own graph and match through the rough terrains. Here is a man whose broad mind makes him elevate men (thousands) from grass to grace. Alas, by writing this piece, I think I have done justice to a man who I so much admire his cause and personality, a man who I see as a mentor and a hero of contemporary virtues and I am humble enough to be unbiased in my thesis. Every part of it is open to critic and suggestions and for those who aspire to play politics, I recommend The most Distinguish Senator (Dr) Sheriff as role model and a case study, for this icon cannot only be seen as an individual but rather an institution!
