THE RIVERS STATE RUFFLE-RUFFLE FIGHT: MOTHER VS SON Every day we see wonders in Nigeria, latest being the crises in River State and the mind boggling facts and revelations emanating from the fallout between and mother and a son. Thanks to the peace mission by our eminent men of God from Rivers State on a peace mission all in a bid to mediate over the crises rocking Rivers State to avoid another repeat of Blood Rivers. Before the initiation of the peace mission by eminent men of God from Niger Delta, we had “Spousal Appendage” added to our lexicon, we also heard that apart from oil that is buried in the swamp of Niger Delta, there are also “hippopotamus”, while there is a “shippopotamus” in the savannah of Abuja, thanks to our Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka. We have also heard of 5 greater than 27, just as we are yet to recover from 16 greater than 19. We have seen brutality in most babaric form by supposedly honourables in 21st century Nigeria. We have also seen crying against the police taking sides. We also heard of teargasing of Governors’ lodge. We have also seen a man calling “Our Madam At The Top” her Jesus Christ. Just as we have heard Gov. Amaechi saying on BBC “hard talk” that he does not need to inform the president that he was contesting for the chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum, reason, because the Forum is an association (pressure group) that takes care of interest of its members. He went further to tell the journalist that it’s just like someone telling the journalist in BBC interviewing him to seek permission from the British Prime Minister, before contesting for the chairmanship of the England Union of Journalist. Finally, let us not forget the grounding of the states’ owned private Jet by the “almighty’ federal government. Hummmmm! Lord of host, “Jehoval”. It reminds me of the song “come down fire, holy ghost fire, come down fire again, holy ghost fire” I dey laugh oh! Worthy of note, is the comments of both son and mother. While mother said that son refused to hear her plea not to demolish some houses in Okrika four years ago, she refused to forgive her son and kept grudges this past four years. Son said when they went to Okirika, he told mother that he will demolish houses around the primary school, mother said no, no, no and grab the microphone and disagree with son publicly. Son said that because mother’s programme in Okrika was not on the programme list, he left her to sit in a primary school. What a humiliation of “madam at the top”. Let us not forget my man, Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon who has added colours to the political debacle and brouhaha in Rivers State through his interview on channels TV. Hear him “the political krikum krakum or political higin hagan, have the odouriferious saga cum gagatuan gaga and I maiyankenly bewilder that this flash point is of no serious concern to the Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria” Hear him again “one, 2015 is inelaidly laiden with talidoe mines. Two, whereas, some social scientist like myself for donkey years have gone to town saying, what we have is not democracy, but what we have is a civilian rule, but by recent events, am even tempted to say no, no, no, no……. Nigeria is neither witnessing civilian rule, nor Nigeria witnessing democracy, what we have at best is a form of government, I call kakismobobotocracy and that is bad for the nation” Hummmmmmm! Thumps up for erudite politician, Hon. Obahiagbon! Ogao! Nigeria my country! When will our political elites embrace selfless service? At the heart of these crises is ego fight between the first lady and an elected Governor of a state as well as political vendetta. One would expect the first lady as the mother of the nation to conduct her affairs in a respectful manner and with decorum. She must not forget that there is nothing like office of the first lady in the Nigeria constitution. The other day, she was enmeshed in a piece of land tussle with a former first lady to the extent they had to go to court washing their dirty linen in public. Thereafter, the 4 billion naira misplaced priority budget by FCT to build first ladies mission building in Abuja, and now, rubbing shoulders with an elected governor of a state. As a mother of the nation by her position as the wife of the president under which context she referred to Gov. Amaechi as her son, she should know that it’s incumbent and imperative that she leads and live by example. Nigerians love her and also want the president to succeed; she should allow the president to focus on the enormous challenges that encircled this nation. Governor Amaechi must drop his youthful exuberance as an elected Governor presiding over a state he should respect the wife of the president and commander in chief, no matter the provocation. Why would he abandoned the first lady in an event then go and sit in a primary school. Or when in the first lady’s entourage and the first lady alerts from a vehicle and the governor chose to sit back in the vehicle. If a similar treatment is meted out to the governor’s wife, as the first lady of Rivers State by a local government chairman in Rivers State. How would the governor feel? I challenge the mother, Mrs Patience Jonathan and son, Gov. Rotimi Amaechi to sit-down and resolve their differences like mother and son than allowing political jobbers to cash on the situation to further milk the state and the country dry. The first lady is from Rivers states, she has a stake on how the state is been governed, the governor must appreciate that and she must respect the elected governor of the state no matter the age. Both the first lady and the governor can partner together in moving the state forward. It shouldn’t be headmistress-pupil or headmaster-pupil relationships. The two personalities must come together for the interest and betterment of the good people of Rivers State. Please, sheath your swords and give peace a chance!
