THE RUINS OF CARTHAGE The greatest military strategist of all time, Hannibal Barca ( Circa 200 BC) has become synonymous with the powerful and highly civilized African city of Carthage,Tunisia. After invading and crushing the Romans in several epic battles, Carthage was finally attacked and destroyed in the third punic war. So traumatized were the Romans that they made sure nothing remained of Carthage.Women and their babies were thrown into fire. Salt was mixed with the soil to make sure nothing grew. The Roman Empire eventually fragmented into European Nation states which inherited the structures and philosophies of Rome and embarked on the subjugation and destruction of others. Hannibal remains etched in European history, such that even today in Europe, the warning Hannibal is at the door means There is real trouble coming. Nelson Mandela visited Carthage soon after his release and remarked We are certain that we will prevail over the currents of the past, and ensure that the interregnum of humiliation symbolised by, among others the destruction of Carthage is indeed consigned to the past, never to return. God bless Africa For yourself and the sake of your children, read all about Hannibal in the book 100 GREAT AFRICAN KINGS AND QUEENS, adapted for younger age groups in THE GLORY OF AFRICAN KINGS AND QUEENS and THE POETRY OF AFRICAN KINGS AND QUEENS. amazon/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=pusch+commey.
