THE SANCTITY OF MARRIAGE Today many marriages are passing through a lot of challenges. The local courts seem to be having more devorce papers than marriage certificates. We hear of people getting married today and devorcing or separating tomorrow. People begin with ‘sweetheart’ but end up calling each other ‘iwe!’ They begin with romantic pinches and slaps but end up with wife buttering and, husband buttering sometimes. The question that continues to linger in our minds is: “where have things gone wrong???????” Immediately the answer that comes to mind is that we have lost the sanctity of the Sacrament of Matrimony. And all of us have a duty to recover this sanctity. What did God intend when he established this sacrament? God intended that man and woman should live in harmony as one body. What we see today is the corruption of the intention of God. Christ is the source of the love that forms the basis of the dignity of marriage. The fullness of the sanctity of marriage can only be lived in Christ who heals human nature so that the couple may fullfil their marital obligations without sin. Marriage calls for fidelity to the covenant. The promise made is between two people who agree to unite out of love. As they unite, they re-enact the original unity. A good wife is a crown of a man. She is home oriented and generous. A good husband appreciates his wife and distances himself from other women. He always wants to protect the exclusivity of their marriage.
