THE SCRIPT BEING LONG PLEASE READ IT WHEN YOU HAVE TIME. Political Gimmicks: As a nation, we are now more politically conscious and do understand the political games being played. Previously in the days of Bhutto and thereafter, we were taken as granted and became very docile and accepted any thing good or bad as fate accompli. This mental state promoted auto-cracy. The political auto-cracy damaged Pakistan most, even more than Martial Law. To examine these statements check-up the spreadsheet of both type of governance. Having given free hand to politicians, it has now developed into family-cracy to ensure that power remains in their hand. Things do not remain same always. The Imran Khan factor made all of us to think specially the middle class being the worst sufferer. Only two classes now exist, that is rich and poor, the middle class have nearly disappeared which is the backbone of a good and prosperous society. A slogan of “New Pakistan” with no corruption, no family rule, promise for good governance and curse for the selective justice made us to think for replacement of the system. It had to happen. Politicians feeling the heat have joined hands to counter the surge of change by all possible means. Finding that hollow slogans would not work now, the political parties who have monopolized the corridor of power since decades have decided to bring militancy as a political tool or factor. Recent killings in Model Town, Islamabad, APS Peshawar and other places are the show of militancy power. Judiciary has also been politicized to an extent that militants caught with evidences were set free in thousand by a stroke of pen. Some high profile criminal cases were shelved or put under the carpet and no one raised a voice. Take the case of BB killing. Lot of tears were shed, emotional speeches were made and promise to revenge the killing of BB by exposing those who connived, remained a promise like Roti-Kapra aur Makan. The funniest part of BB killing is that UN was approached to probe and investigate, knowing fully well that nothing will emerge. Now those who are the actual killers, they have a clean chit from an international peace organization to prove their innocence. No other political party even tried to know who killed and why, because their own feathers could be burned. Why are they maintaining deep silence is a food for thought. One who can kill a leader like BB can go to any extent. Only yesterday, the Co-Chairman of PPP made a very meaningful statement cautioning Nawaz Sharif to not to give free hand to Army Courts. He advised NS that “if he is not alert then one day he (NS) and me (AAZ) may find ourselves behind the bar” for reason which may surface later. How could an army court established now for punishing militants can transgress into the history of our criminal record, is the point to consider. It looks apparently well that our political leaders are frightened by their own shadow. Why these seasoned politicians are feeling threatened, is absolutely clear, just do some mental war-gaming. The point to note is that Army Commander has recently been changed. The change was thoroughly deliberated and examined from all angles by the civil hierarchy. Gen Raheel Sharif, a thorough bred soldier and belonging to a martial family decorated with highest military laurels was finally appointed. Gen Raheel was having contemporary like Gen Haroon and Gen Tariq to chose from. Both these Generals carried the stamp of tough decision makers and a thorough bred soldier drawing great respect from the army ranks and files. Gen Raheel on the other hand was considered by some as soft spoken, balanced and not very firm in attitude. They forgot that army Generals are trained to work on case to case basis on merits. Gen Raheel, on assuming command made his intention very clear to let the democracy prosper and every one to work for the cause of the country. Then there came some hiccups but were handled by the General properly and squarely. He made his intention known that he would not be sitting in his office and a bird watcher from distance. He launched the operation against taliban strong holds which Gen Kayani always avoided for his own reasons. It reminds us of the famous quote from one of our Caliphs that a business person should not be made the ruler of a state. The same, also applies to a Army Chief who should not have any other interest except remaining busy in his professional affair which lies embedded in the oath taken. It is strange that how could an Army Chief be dragged into a business prospect. It shows the psyche of our politicians who can bait anyone. It is believed that Gen Raheel decision to go for elimination of militancy as the first priority did not augur well in the political circle to which we are hostage. Number of reasons were given in the name of poor economy, rising cost of living, threat perception of the region and uncertain geo-political situation. The decision to go for taliban hunting was opposed by nearly all political parties including parties based on religious slogans. Reasons are known to all. The Imran Khan aura spread like a jungle fire and the oppressed people mainly from poor, middle and upper middle class for the first time rose to the occasion. This caused shudder and fear in the ruling class. They tried all their political ploy like discussion, meeting, discussion in the parliament, offer to negotiate on the table, opened their coffer also. They used state force also to beat and kill but all failed. Then came the most cruel and ghastly episode of APS Peshawar which not only jolted every Pakistani but also shook the world. This national disaster whether home grown or yet another ploy, caused all to forget political differences and unite. It happened so. Everyone forgot the rallies and political jalsas. Breathing space was provided to militant groups, rulers and their sympathizers to reorganize and put the problems of the nation at back-burner. People being politically conscious are asking why only APS of Peshawar (KPK) and mostly innocent school children were targeted. The answer lies in the nature of incident itself and how Imran Khan is off the road stunned by the death of so many innocent. If one follows the trail, it will lead to so many incidents where militancy used as political tool. Examine all what happened and see where we are standing now. Having succeeded in making Imran Khan & his PTI sidelined from the scene, there is another looming shadow of army looking over the shoulder. It always make political leaders shiver in their bone when in power even otherwise also. Nawaz Sharif could not undo his decision of making General Raheel as the Chief for very obvious reason. Just after when, Gen Raheel assumed the command, he made his first priority to engage taliban and militant groups who were virtually ruling this country. That is the army way of settling the account with the enemy. Our politicians did not like it and exerted pressure on Nawaz Sharif to not to allow such offensive as most of them have common interest with the militant groups for many reason. There is not even one reason for the safety and security of the country which should have been the top priority of a good leader of Pakistan. Pressure on Nawaz Sharif kept increasing. It is not a secret anymore that even Imran Khan feels the heat and keeps making some favorable statement in favor of taliban thinking that may help him to bring peace in KPK. Imran Khan could not realize that KPK is the life line of militants and there is no other way to bring peace except hitting them before they root into the ground. Political parties working in tandem have decided to play their all weather game of meetings, parley, negotiation, parliament discussion, making committees, APC formation and so on. It is an old ploy to keep delaying the decision till all are exhausted and finally decide to maintain status quo. Would this be acceptable to army which, is under oath to save and protect the country from foreign aggression. Militancy is yet another form of aggression. Pressure on army is also being exerted to soften them up. Is it possible under Gen Raheel and his best chosen commanders who lead from the front. We as a nation are hanging in balance and watching who winks first. Let’s be sure that there will not be any army courts and even any more death punishment. Judiciary for their own reasons could not handle the judicial matters judiciously. When they could not bring Iftikhar Chaudhry to the judicial court for answering all the actions which he took as Chief Justice considered malafide. Those actions brought immense harm to the judiciary which will take decade to establish the sanctity. When Army Chief can be tossed around like a ball in the court, why not a Chief Justice. Needles to say that our top lawyers are also shouting wolf on military court for the simple reason that they would then not be getting heavy purse for advocating any case. We heard the famous quote from these lawyers that why buy witnesses buy the judge. The fear of military court for this reason also hangs around their neck and are misleading the govt and the poor public.
