THE SELFLESS HEROES OF THE NPP PARTY. From 1982 to 1992, Ghana was a military dictatorship, ruled by Flight-Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, and dominated by a culture of silence. It was into this atmosphere in 1987 that the historian Albert Adu Boahen gave a lecture at the British Council Hall in Accra - there being no other sanctioned place for such a gathering - and broke that silence. In his speech, Boahen used the story of Sphinx, the man-eating monster in Sophocless Oedipus Tyrannus, as a metaphor for his countrys military dictatorships. His address ended with a quotation from James Baldwins The Fire Next Time, invoking the possibility of the military being devoured by itself, or toppled by civil disobedience. He stood as our presidential candidate at the age of 60 in 1992. He lost, instead of entrenching himself in the party he led a boycott of parliament. As selfless as he was at young as 64 he gave way to JAK. He saw the need for a younger tall handsome man to continue the battle. Where are the Adu Boahens in our party today?? Nberma ay3 nbaa !! Who has sacrificed more than Adu Boahen for the freedom we enjoy today ??? Yet he gave up his political ambition for the next generation. These are our true heroes not the selfish losers who will never be president.
