THE SILENT COLD-WAR BETWEEN UDP & PDOIS As oppressed Gambians - TopicsExpress

THE SILENT COLD-WAR BETWEEN UDP & PDOIS As oppressed Gambians continue to look for ways on how to put an end to Dictator Jammehs brutal regime in Banjul, there continues to be a silent cold-war brewing between some fanatics of the opposition UDP and PDOIS parties on how the future Gambia should look. Few might openly admit it, but its no secret that between UDP & PDOIS exists a deep tribal instinct - beautifully disguised as mere idealogical differences - that seems to be reaching an irretrievable point. UDP is indubitably the Gambias leading opposition party though with a leader whose calm & soft demeanor is being interpreted, and may be rightly so, as being naive or weak. But, despite this perceived weakness in its leadership, its faithful believe their leading spot among the opposition lot should qualify them to lead in any future coalition thats formed to challenge the Jilanka. But for PDOIS, the party with the least support-base in more-than-its-two-decades existence, its highly educated and brave (though overrated) leadership is too schooled to be led by a leader it does not only consider as naive, but also an alter-ego of Sir Dawda Jawara, a man whose [Mandinka] PPP party gleefully stood between PDOIS and the State House gate for 30 good years. Its this instinctive discrimination that the two sides are so consumed with that the bigger picture - the Gambias collective interest - is being continuously overlooked. Yes, UDP has the majority, but despite its majority status among the oppositions, the party is well aware that in the absent of a comprehensive coalition, it would be almost impossible to unseat the well-seated monkey from State House. PDOIS, meanwhile, wont be a party to any deal thatd put UDP in the driving seat for a race to State House. Instead, the socialist party has morphed into a quiet disrupter, sabotaging silently and irretrievably, any feasible effort that could see a UDP-led United Front confront Dictator Jammeh. And when its all said and done, we must realize that the qualification for a political leadership cant always be based on who can coin the most crafted political jargons, cuz if so, the Gambia today wont be under the tight grip of a village idiot whose only known qualification and experience is wielding an AK47.
