The inventions of science have turned the world into a place of noise. Every new gadget introduces another new noise into the world. Traffic roars through the street: Aeroplanes disturb the peace of the sky and radios and televisions has put an end to the quiet of the home..Silence has become a luxury and a privilege, but no matter how costly it is and how difficult to find, it is essential to our mental and bodily health that we have some place where we can withdraw from the noise and confusion. Noise grates along the nerves and creates tensions and points of resistance. There is something in us that needs silence as the lungs needs air.. One needs a room that is furnished simply with a bed, a stool, table and candlestick. A place where a man can eat, sleep and pray.. If You find your life is becoming noisy and chaotic, make a cell of quietness for yourself. Clear a little space where you can be still and listen to the singing of the silence.. If You cannot make such a place in your own home there is always the house of GOD, some- where down the street.. The door is open and it is open for YOU .
