THE SLUMS OF BEVERLY HILLS (dir. Tamara Jenkins) A semi-autobiographical film by director Tamara Jenkins that tells the story of a dysfunctional family who move from one fleabag hotel to another on the fringes of an exclusive LA community so that the children can attend the Beverly Hills school district. However, this is a dark and transgressive coming-of-age satire with lots of salacious and off-color humor that almost seems like a pilot for a TV sitcom. A great ensemble cast including Alan Arkin, Marisa Tomei, Kevin Corrigan, and Natasha Lyonne who stars in the new TV series, ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK.
