THE SPIRIT OF NATIONALISM NOT SOME ETHNIC TUNES. - TopicsExpress

THE SPIRIT OF NATIONALISM NOT SOME ETHNIC TUNES. Nationalism is a belief, creed or political ideology that involves an individual identifying with, or becoming attached to ones nation. A nationalist is therefore, a person who advocates that the interests of the nation or country are primary and deserving preference over individual interest or ethnic sentiments. A nationalist always think of what his/her country will benefit not only what his ethnic region will benefit. He always strives for national equity, justice and fairness in all his dealings. Regrettably, the dearth of nationalism is the major factor threatening the continous existence of our entity called Nigeria. Interestingly, as the elections draw nearer, our political Ronaldoes are everywhere drumming ethnic tunes to our gulliable massess. Unfortunately, the massess are nodding their heads impusively to the rhythm of their tunes. To the southerners, here is the tune: dont vote for Buhari because he is from the north besides GEJ is ur brother. To the northerners, dont vote for GEJ because the man is from the south besides, Buhari shares the same faith with you. But must we dance to these ethnic tunes? Should we access an aspirant on the basis of ethnicity or competence level? As for me, our focus should be on the aspirants track-records. They may deceive us with their lofty manifestoes but, their track-records will always be there to prove their true characters! The need for nationalistic spirit more than ethnic sentiment is so central especially now that our economy is in shambles. For those who are not in the know, 2015 will be a very bad year for the nation economically because the price of oil which is the main-stay of the nation economy is crashing badly at the international market. For instance, last year December, the oil price at the international market stood at $90 per barrel and now further fallen to $57 per barrel and still falling. Again, the federal govermnent had agumented the revenue by drawing down the excess crude account, until it came to $4.5 billion on october last year and $2billion was again peeled off to help all tiers of govt. At the moment, there is little money left in the excess crude account to cushion the impact of dwindling oil revenue. May God help us! Needless to say, corruption is the root course of our depressed economy. Therefore, I am enjoining every rational thinking Nigerian to jettison any form of ethnic sentiment and vote for any candidate with a political will to reduce corruption to the barrest minimal. This is very central because productivity can only be potent in a government devoid of corruption. We must make this country work no matter our ethnic divide. Above all, lets us prove US prediction wrong that this country will be a fail state by 2015. To achieve this, we must consciously aviod any thing that could undermine the continous existence of this great country. A better Nigeria starts from you. Lets vote wisely: ur vote is ur right. God bless Nigeria!
