FISHING REPORT >>Last night, once again, Cape Henlopen SW Fly Anglers of DE reports Lloyd catching a 21 striper and 19.5 fluke. Clyde had 2 blues that were cut off due to lack of a wire trace. Bill, Skip and Clyde, club members, caught a 20 and 16 striper respectively this past week at night within the Henlopen flats. >>Ron Capone, AKA The Drum King, is at it again surf fishing in South Fenwick catching a drum and several bluefish on bunker and clam. >>Corey Rutledge sent in: My friend, Jason, and I got 14 blues 14 to 18 and shad in about 2 hours at the inlet. >>Henry Busby wrote us on facebook: Caught 38 and 29 stripers off Bethany Beach using fresh bunker. Fifty two hours of fishing on the surf pays off! >>Eddie Kim and Kwan Chon, Rockville, Md., caught their limit of flounder at the Pier on pink Gulp! On another trip, Eddie Kim picked up a 25 , 6.54# flounder at the Pier again on pink Gulp. >>From Brenton Wallace: The pier was on fire tonight between 8:45 and 10:30. Two keeper flounder (19 and 21 ) for myself, both on minnows I picked up at your shop earlier this evening. I saw several people landing keeper flatties all over the pier on pink Gulp, minnows and shiners. The gentleman fishing right next to me landed a rockfish that I measured for him at 37 , caught on cut bunker - beautiful fish ! It s the biggest fish I have ever seen taken from the pier. >>Kyle Fortney of Fortneys Outdoors Charters in Lewes caught a 23.5 4.65# flounder and a 38 , 20.4# striper in the IRI. >>Just got an unconfirmed report of a striper blitz at the inlet!!!! They are hitting on anything you throw in the water. As we hear more, we will let you know. >>We have reports of blues at 3Rs. >>Matty Slentz nailed a 25 black drum at Broadkill Beach on sand fleas. >>Young Owen Grossi and his father Ross, Wilmington, caught 2 trout on Broadkill Beach using swim baits. Owen s fish is a citation at 4.85# meausuring 24 . >>Mike Perry, Southern Delaware Jeep Club, snagged a black drum on clams at Delaware Seashore State Park. >>Bobby Scollier, Wilmington, landed a 30, 40# black drum at the Broadkill Slough with fresh clams. >>Al Boyde, Lancaster, PA, snagged a 22.8l#, 41 beautiful striper on Storms at IRI. >>Mike Williamson, New Castle, caught a 24.6#, 39 striper at 3Rs Rd. bloodworms. >>Keith Tolley wrote on facebook: Friday night at the pier....2 limits of flounder on strip baits, sometimes Gulp. At 1:30 a.m. had 5 fish in less than 5 min. with 2 keepers and a double header lol. Jims trout weighed 7.35#, was 27 long with a girth of 13 . >>Bill Jr visited IRI this morning (Monday 5-19) and posted several videos on facebook of blues and stripers being landed. >>Fishing Report by Sue Foster, Oyster Bay Tackle, OC: Water temp is 57.2. Bluefish still in the surf along with a few nice stripers. Sharks, skates, and blowfish are also biting in the surf. A few black drum on Assateague plus one red drum that we heard of. Keeper stripers hit the Indian River Inlet and the Rt. 50 Bridge. The first Norfolk spot were caught up in Delaware around the Roosevelt Inlet area. Some early croakers were reported from the Oceanic Pier! FYI >>LEWES (May 14, 2014) Delaware beachnesting bird monitors discovered the first piping plover nests of the season at Cape Henlopen State Park last week, with one at Gordons Pond and two on the Point. All three pairs are now incubating their nests. Since it is early in the season, more nests are expected in both locations. To minimize disturbances to the tiny shorebirds, a half-mile stretch of beach at Gordons Pond between the Observation Towers and the Herring Point crossover will be closed to the public this week with signs, twine and PVC posts cordoning off the area. As with previous seasons, a portion of the beach at the Point was closed in March. Closing off plover nesting areas is an established protocol every year at Cape Henlopen, and this closing is in the typical area that beachgoers are accustomed to. This area will remain closed until the last of our plover chicks are fledged, usually in late August, said Wildlife Biologist Matthew Bailey, who coordinates the Division of Fish and Wildlife s Piping Plover Protection Program. >>Tog is closed and will reopen July 17. (last week I made an error and said July 1 sorry) >>Sea Bass is open 5/19 to 9/18 and 10/18 to 12/31 and 15 fish at 12.5 . Black Drum limits are 3 fish at 16 or better throughout the entire State. >>The May 21st Tidal Finfish Advisory Council meeting has been cancelled.
