THE STARFISH STORY (inspired by my friend Rob Bratcher who is currently on a mission trip ministering to children in inner city Memphis). I was once walking along the beach when I saw a child frantically reaching down and waiving her arms ever so wildly. As I approached I could see that the waves were washing the starfish ashore where they would eventually die as the tide moved out. The little girl was desperately picking up each starfish and throwing them back in the water only to see the next wave push them back ashore. She was distraught. As I looked at her, I explained the circle of life and how no matter how hard she tried, the waves would almost certainly still return the starfish to their eventual death. I explained that there are some times in life when whatever we do, we just cant make a difference. As the tears welled in her eyes, she reached down and picked up a starfish and threw it back in the ocean, I can make a difference for him. Matthew 18:3 - Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Is there a nugget somewhere in there for us?
