THE STICK TGREAPER What is it? said James. Paul said nothing, just carried on staring at the pale thing in the sandbox, poking it with the stick of bamboo hed stolen from Mr. Burchiellis garden only an hour ago, when everything had been normal. I dont think its anything, said Angela. I mean, it doesnt look like anything. Not really. Well, it has to be something, said James. It cant be nothing. Can it? Whatever it is, said Paul, still staring, still poking, I think its bleeding. The trio bent over, looking into the sandbox at the stream of crimson fluid staining the sand. A slit appeared in the center of the pale mass, which peeled open, exposing a large, bloodshot eye. The ground shook as the mass pushed through the sand and grass. The kids backed away, watching in horror as the creature stepped out of the massive hole it had been sleeping in. It resembled a man, at least had a mans body. It stood around twelve feet tall, had a massive bleeding eye in the center of its head, and bat-like ears. The pale skin bled all the way down its body, and ivory razors peeked out under cracked lips. Run! Angela screamed. She turned and the creature reached out with razor claws, slicing her clean in half. Paul looked at the pieces of his friend, aimed the stick and threw it like a spear, slamming the creature in his forehead. Dude, your aim sucks! James said. He picked up a rock and hurled it, hitting the creature squarely in the eye. Now run! The ground suddenly split like an old wound, spewing flames and creatures of all shapes and sizes. James and Paul found themselves surrounded by demonic creatures. Mr. Burchielli stepped out from behind one of the creatures, wearing a strange robe and holding the stick. You shouldnt play with other people’s toys,” Mr. Burchielli said. He tossed the stick to Paul, who caught it. Too late, he realized the creatures wanted to play fetch. They pounced before he could get rid of the stick.
