THE STORY OF EMILY: Emily is about 2 years old and tested high for heart worms. She was brought to the shelter on July 25, 2014 by animal control who took her out of a bad situation where other pit bulls had been taken before that. She was very beat up. Even though she was scarred and bruised she was sweet and gentle. She just had a look about her of relief that she was safe now. She used to look up at Twin, one of our trustees and you could almost read her mind like she was thanking him and us for loving her. She had bite marks all over her legs and face. She had injuries to her left inner ear, right front leg, left eye (which was very swollen). At the time we were suspicious that she may be pregnant. The vet took an X-ray and could not see any babies. She felt that she possibly had an infected uterus or that she was pregnant and we could not tell yet. After a few days her belly had gotten much bigger and it was confirmed that she was approximately 2 weeks from her due date. She stayed at the shelter for a few more days, but then Dr Serio was kind enough to let her come to stay in her clinic and deliver there. On August 13, 2014 she delivered 14 healthy puppies who were all gray and white like their momma. The vet said she could tell she had had puppies before. Her puppies all survived and were happy and healthy, which the vet attributes to Emily being such an amazing momma. All of her beautiful puppies have gone to amazing homes and we see pictures and hear reports of how wonderful they are. She really deserves the next chapter of her life to be filled with lots of love and security that a forever family could give her. Miss Emily is READY FOR ADOPTION! She has started her heartworm treatment thanks to the guardian angel program. She loves kids but would do better as a single dog home with no cats. We would love for you to come visit her. Please notify Shannon Sparks Shaffer to learn more about our sweet girl.
